.44 Carbine magazine spring

I have a early 80's Ruger .44 Mag Carbine that I would like to replace the magazine spring in. I have an extra power Wolff replacement spring and I was wondering who can offer advice on removal of the end plug of the mag tube to replace the spring? It doesn't screw off, I tried that. It appears to maybe be crimped/swaged into the end of the mag tube. Is there anyone who can offer helpful suggestions on this? I would greatly appreciate any advice! Thanks very much-
Lee
