Using Throating Reamer

I recently purchased a throating reamer to cut a leade in three .45 ACP pistol barrels, and have a couple of questions.

First, how do you know when to stop cutting the leade? Does the reamer atop by itself, or does the operator determine the depth?

Also, I have read that you never force the reamer, but I can feel a definite "bump" when the cutter contacts a land. Is this normal?

Anyone who has used one of these reamers care to chime in? Iowegan, I would welcome your guidance.

Thanks.

Well, I gave it the old college try, and came up short. Apparently, my barrel is harder than the reamer, because it won't cut.

Yeah, it's kinda strange. 140 views, but no answers. Hope you have better luck with yours than I did with mine.
