Changing the Mini 14 gas bushing

Thanks to great info here and on Perfect Union, I have ordered bushings from ATI as well as a heavy duty recoil spring. Despite a small set back time wise from ordering the series 580 (mine is a pencil barrel 580 Ranch) bushing instead of the longer pre 580 bushing, I have already broken the stakes examined the parts and reassembled the gas block at 30 in lbs. Took it out to check function with a Wilson shok buffer on the gas pipe piston and the heavy duty recoil spring. The brass went 6-10 feet with most 6-7 feet. Dang, it works. Went as far as to get welded, a tool for my FAT wrench out of a 9/64 hex and a 5mm 1/4 in drive socket. Maybe I can post a picture now.

I did the mod to my new 14 and 30. It was easy, and now I can find my brass.

Got the bushings trimmed to the length of the original 0.2955. Torqued the gas block to 30 in lbs and started with the original recoil spring. Cases went from 10 to 16 feet 3 to 4 o'clock. Switched to the heavy duty recoil spring and cases went 6 to 10 feet 3 to 4 o'clock. I did put Wilson shok buffers fore and aft. Next is to put the accu strut and scope back on.
