S&W front sight pin diameter

I have a S&W 629-6 that has a pinned front sight. I have had trouble seeing the 'red' on the front sight so I bought a red fiber optic pinned front sight for it. While trying to get the pin out using a 1/16 inch roll pin punch the pin would move only a few thousands of an inch when the punch got stuck in the hole. So, what diameter pin punch is to be used? Thank you

Which direction were you driving the pin?

As viewed from the back.

Viewed from the back, I was driving the roll pin right to left. But, that was not the problem. As I stated, my 1/16 inch roll pin punch is too large to fully drive out the pin. I have learned that the hole and pin are .055 inch diameter. So, I have used a small drill bit upside down to get the pin out.

Glad you got it out Tom.

Concensus is, drive out to the right and drive in to the left. As seen from behind the sights.

Thanks for all of the replies. I did buy a pack of #54 drill bits to drill the new sight hole (not the original hole on the barrel. Worked like a charm!
