Hello, Regarding the Feb 16 09 Gun Digest. In the readers range section,a fellow is asking if he can convert his Rossi .22/20 ga to .22 mag.The response from Keven M. is " shooting a bullet that is .224 dia.( magnum) down a bore that was designed to shoot a .223 dia. bullet lr." He goes on to say it is unsafe. If that is true, did Ruger do something to their chamber/bore diameters in the single six to make that conversion possible from .22lr to .22mag. melohn, Kevin was right. Pushing a high velocity jacketed .224" bullet down a .222" bore made for a soft lead bullet is dangerous. Ruger Single-Sixes have a .224" bore. That makes for a slightly loose fit for 22 LR ammo, which in turn makes accuracy less than stellar. Some of us use the Paco Kelly tool to "bump up" the 22 LR bullet diameter which can really improve accuracy. Of course you have to ream the throats in the 22 LR cylinder to .224" before you will see much accuracy improvement.
