What are some of you-all's "bucket guns", that is; rare(ish) guns you have to own before you move on, guns you would buy in a heart beat. Two of mine are a Ruger PC9
and S&W 1006.
I have a few more on my list but these two are the two more uncommon.
My gun bucket has three single sixes in it. They include a stainless with ivory grips and a case hardened Birdshead with 4 7/8" barrels, and a Bissly with a 6 1/2" barrel, all in 32 H&R Mag. A Marlin 94 in same caliber would be nice, but they're rather spendy.
How about this. I just scored on two 32's. First is a stainless with birdshead grip, and the other a Bisley. Now all I have to is wait for the FFL guy to call me when they come in. Already have the reloading components on the way, should be here tomorrow.
The Garand is the only gun I actually pine for. One day I will own one, but not just any one. I want an authentic WW2 beaten up dinged and scratched example with a history. It doesn't matter if the bore is perfect or if it shoots straight. Functional is good 'nuff for me.
When I was a young teenager in the late 50's, a brother was a member of a rod and gun club that had a couple M-1's on loan for members use, along with all the free surplus ammo they wanted. We used them to hunt jackrabbits. I carried one deer hunting when I was 15. It was a heavy mother, and didn't get any lighter when I carried one in basic training in 63.
What would be even better is if you knew the history behind all the dings and scratches.
1. An M1 Garand (preferably Springfield Armory or Winchester)
2. An M1 Carbine (preferably Winchester or Rock-O-ola)
3. An M1a
4. An Armalite AR-10T 7.62mm NATO 20" SST
5. A S&W Model 59 (was my first duty gun as a LEO and foolishly sold it, I've been searching for another similar 59 ever since - about 20 years)
M1A Loaded
Springfield Garand
Inland(mixmaster) M1 Carbine
Lucked out getting the Carbine, saved forever for the M1A and luck and draining a bank account for the M1. All three make a splash at the range when brought out together!
Just got rid of one of my "bucket guns" a few weeks ago. A BFR 45/70 revolver. I had surgery in my dominant shooting hand in October and ended up with two screws in a thumb joint. Scared to shoot it after that. Have shot 44 magnums with just a little thumb pain but the BFR even loaded down is a handful! I did see one in a local shop yesterday though when I picked up another 1911! Another one I would like to own is a fine old double rifle in say 577 nitro express. A S&W Triplelock too!
Ive owned alot of guns some I liked some I didnt... and the only one I think that I havent got around to getting, and keeping would be a very nice vintage M1 , it was also the first gun Ive ever fired. BTW I own two Mini 14's...
I always wanted a Hawkeye single shot 256 Win. I placed a bid on and missed it at the end. I finally gave up the idea of owning one when prices went over 2 grand.
Stopped by a LGS at lunch the other day, and to my surprise, there were TWO PC carbines in the rack. A PC9 and a PC4. Well, I already have a PC4, and the PC9 is/was my number one bucket gun, so what did I do? It went straight on layaway! I will post pics in a new thread about this UNFIRED NIB beaut when I get her!
My "bucket guns" keep changing. Currently it is a Super Redhawk. 454 Casull, 7.5 inch barrel.
Not too long ago I wanted a Remington 88 in 35 Remington, for nostalgic reasons. Have yet to find a good one.
