Oh boy. I bought my first gun about 2 years ago. A Hungarian Feg pa63 9x18.nice gun actually.anyway,i was in the bedroom and i inserted a full mag, racked it and hit the decocker with the intention of putting it up.well, i guess i had my trigger finger slightly on the trigger so when i hit the decocker the pistol jumped a little and BLAM! Right thru the darn wooden headboard.scared the livin c**p out of me.hole in headboard and wall.spackled and painted the wall.and tape to match the headboard.learned a big lesson.got one in the closet to match. Happily im much more aware and savvy now.still feel pretty stupid.ALWAYS SAFETY 1st.

When I first saw the title of this thread, I had a flood of memories (pun intended) of a long recuperation time after my Bladder Cancer Surgery, when I would get NO (and I mean NOT a Hint of) warning of the need to find a restroom ASAP.

While I urge safety with all our handling of firearms, I am relieved (again, pun is meant to be) that the group is not suffering as I did for those monthes after surgery !!

Im guilty, but only once, and Ive NEVER had one since, I just adjusted the trigger on my old .308 bolt action rifle, must have been around 2 lbs, and as I went to bring it to shoulder, I had it pointed down range and neglegently put my finger on/in the trigger well before i was ready to shoot, anyways, I made an adjustment to my position with my finger in/on the trigger area, and "pop" it went off....totally took me by surprise. I was so very thankful that at least it was pointed down range. Now its a Positive mental check to make sure that Im NOT on the trigger until Im ready to shoot.

I had an Uncle drop an antique revolver that put one in his leg. Ill have to ask Pops to get the details on that one. Never had one myself. Fingers crossed to keep it that way.

Almost had one while dove hunting.
I took a shot at a dove with my O/U ( missed ) and then reloaded the barrel.
After several minutes I noticed that I hadn't put the safety back on.
I've always prided myself on being a safe hunter.... not so proud anymore.

I had what I would call an "unexpected" discharge with my new Savage MK II .22 last weekend.. It was a cold day on the outdoor range, once I lined up on target, I started to put my gloved finger in the trigger guard, and fired well before I intended to.. There again, thankful for safety drills and training.. (about keeping your finger off the trigger until your ready to fire...)

No harm, no foul, as I was allready on target, but wow.. suprised me.

There is a dirt bank outside my shop, so the only harm is the hole in the wall. The other time, I was at a public range and the gun was pointed down range. No harm. Still, it is alarming to have a gun fire when you're not expecting it.
Indeed. Point out that one of the basic rules of firearms is that your finger is completely off the trigger until you are ready to fire. Follow this rule and a ND cannot happen in the manner you describe.

Fortunately I have not had one, but I have had a bonehead move that could have led to one. At the trap range, we are only allowed to put in one shell and only before taking the shot. I loaded and called pull, the trap machine malfunctioned. This happened several times. Everyone gathered and we talked and called the range officer. The RO, a friend, told us to unload and put all guns on the rack. I was not a novice shooter and was always adament about safety. When she reminded me that my action was not open, I argued mildly that I had never loaded it. She was insistent. I said okay and decided to prove her..................ABSOLUTLY RIGHT! In all the malfunctioning problems and talking I had totally forgotten that I had chambered a round. And all my fellow shooters had not remembered me doing it either. So negligent, yes. Discharge, fortunately no.

1983, cleaning my Ruger Redhawk in .44 mag at my buddy's trailer. Listening to the action next to my right ear. Worst earache ever.

I had an accidental discharge with my MkIII when the sear broke and slamfired.

Noone was injured because I was following the four rules and all the rounds went safely downrange.

I had a close call one night. Not a discharge, but it was even scarier.

After I came back from Iraq, I had my revolver on the nightstand. Had a few months where I would have really bad nightmares. Never remember what they were, but I would wake up freaked out and not know what was going on.

One night, I woke up, sitting up in bed with the revolver in my hand aiming at the door to the bedroom.

After that, the revolver went into the drawer of the nightstand.

This kind of thing is actually a "semi-accidental discharge", but thanks for sharing!
