Ive been fascinated with guns since I was a kid..
Most of my family members were. Either career military men or law enforcement
So I got into it early...

My mother was a gun owner and a decent shooter
And the rest is history......

Well for me it was the fact i knew my parents both had guns, but we werent the "go to the range" type family. It was something i knew about, but we just didnt talk about it. So me being 26 and living in tennesse now with a 3 yr old son and 1 month old daughter i decided to raise my kids diferently. I have always been into guns, war movies, and the war type games. I want my kids to know that its ok to have a way to protect yourself as long as you are responsible in doing so. After i purchased my first handgun my family opened up and started talking about the subject, which in my opinion brought us closer together. But now i have more in common with my father-in-law as well. Me and my wife both now have handguns and we go out with her dad and his wife almost every weekend to the range to shoot which makes my wife happy, so i think i could honestly say "the family that shoots together stays together". And when my son and daughter are old enough i will gladly buy them a small rifle and let them join in as well, as long as they agree to take a safty class.

An old buddy of mine from Miami (whom I still keep in contact with) turned me onto firearms. The first gun of his I ever fired was an honest-to-goodness genuine semi-auto Uzi 9mm. The thing fired like a dream with virtually no recoil kick whatsoever and I was dead-on accurrate with it from the get go. Sadly he sold the thing a few years ago (why I don't know), right before the prices on these weapons skyrocketed. But he had and still has a number of other guns including the ubiquitous 10-22, which I also liked so much I went out and got me one of my very own!

just took some pics of my Dads old rig from the mid 60's.
1960 Colt SAA .45 tuned for quickdraw from day one. It is slick as deer guts on the front porch with a hair trigger that's light as a feather. This gun has seen many rounds from many years of Gunfighting shows around California from 64 to 67 or so. The barrel would be dripping wax by the end of the day. He said that during parades and such they would do side shows in different bars for free drinks and food. They would "send in a scout" to look around for "any pregnant women or anyone who might get too scared before they started shooting the place up". Imagine trying that today? They practiced at the Spahn Movie Ranch. The holster is from Alfonsos Gunleather that is still around today. Its the James Arness Rig. I have dropped this gun more times that I would like to admit doing a little fancy work starting around 8 years old. My son uses this same holster today but I have him use a different single action.
We shoot this every once in a while and this is what got me into guns.

I was and still am the only person in my family that took to guns, shooting, etc.
It all started when I was about 13 years old, ( 1968 ), a friend of mine received a new handgun for his birthday from his Dad. I bought his old gun a .22 LR S/A 5 1/2" barrel revolver made by a company named PAWNEE, complete with an old raggedy belt & hoster combination.

And the rest is history...

Chuck Connors...

My very, very, very first gun was a lever action "The Rifleman" pop-gun...

When you cocked the lever it charged it with air...a little plastic cap attached to short string secured to the barrel went over the muzzle...when you pulled the trigger the plastic cap would shoot off it would make a nice pop...

Harmless...or so my Mother thought until she found out what me and the kid next door were doing with them...

We would not have been caught except that the bullet wounds we gave each other were big red welts...and lots off them...

We were just tots but it didn't take us long to figure out if we took the plastic caps off and stuck the muzzle in some mud they actually real guns and we could actually hurt each other pretty good...

I think those may have been banned some 50 years ago...not sure...if they are still being sold...they better come with safety glasses because we were quite angry with each other and it was real war...

I grew up shooting my brother's .22 rifle and my granddad's double-barreled shotgun. I then spent the next 50 years gun-free, while teaching at the university level.

Last year at the age of 68, I had two run-ins with BGs and decided never again to be as vulnerable as I was in those two encounters. I bought a Springfield XD9SC, took private lessons, joined a pistol club, and got my CHL. I now conceal carry 24/7. Along the way, I discovered I loved shooting and being retired, I now spend two to three days at the range every week.

Hooked on firearms, I added a Springfield XDS .45ACP, a Ruger Mark III Target .22LR, and a Ruger SR1911 .45ACP to my collection. This last spring, I completed a Citizen's Police Academy and now do regular ride-a-longs with the local police. As part of the Academy, we were allowed to fire any weapon the Police Department (and Swat team) owned. That was a real highlight experience and furthered encouraged my love of firearms.

Emphasizing both self-defense and target practice, shooting has become my primary retirement hobby. My only regret is that I did not start this hobby 50 years ago!

My father died when I was three. I was raised in rural Northern Arizona and Northern New Mexico. I got my Roy Rogers cap guns and cowboy holsters around 1950 when I was about four or five. I grew up reading western books, listening to westerns on the radio, and later watching westerns on TV.

A family friend taught me to shoot his Colt SA .22lr revolver when I was about seven. Another family friend taught me to shoot his Ruger SA .22lr revolver and a Marlin .22lr lever action rifle around eight.

I got my first BB gun at nine years old. Family friends took my deer hunting with borrowed rifles. I bought my first rifle in late 1962 or early 1963 when I was sixteen. It was a Lee-Enfield British .303 and two boxes of ammo ordered from the Sears catalog. The mailman delivered them about ten days or so later.

I joined the Navy after high school when I was still seventeen. At eighteen and nineteen, I was in Viet Nam running Marines up and down rivers on an LCM-8 landing craft. I was on a M2 .50 caliber machine gun with an M1 .30 caliber carbine as backup. I spent twenty-two years in the military.

My dad put his Model 19 Smith and Wesson in my hand when I was a kid, and said "See if you can hit that pie plate out there". When that first round went off I was hooked! Been a life long passion since. I'm thankful for that day and my dad teaching me about gun safety, and the importance of practicing marksmanship!
