My Buddy Found a Bargain!

I met my shooting partner in S. Georgia this weekend to hunt turkeys and do a little fishing (my only gobbler hung up out past 50yds, but the bass were biting). My friend was eager to shoot his new toy. He had taken it to his local range to punch paper, but wanted to blow up some water-filled jugs for fun. He found a S&W .460 Magnum for sale used in a gun shop for a really good price. It came with a Burris scope mounted and a leather "Guides Choice" chest rig from Diamond D Leather of Alaska. The shop was asking $999.00 for everything so he jumped on it. He had previously owned a .500 S&W Mag, but neither of us enjoyed shooting the beast. He traded it for a Colt Anaconda .44 Mag and has been happy ever since. My pal has .44 magnums by Colt, S&W, Ruger, and Dan Wesson in his collection but has wanted a new "Top Dog" in the stable for a while now. After shooting the .460 I think he made a fine choice. This big X-Frame revolver (look how it dwarfs my 7.5" Redhawk and .45lc birdshead in the photo) is comfortable to shoot with any load we tried. The cushioned grip, immense weight, and effective muzzle-brake combine to make her a ***** cat. The accuracy was outstanding with only vertical dispersion among the three diverse loads we shot. Shooting .45 Colt 200gr Cowboy loads was like shooting .22 Shorts, just a pop without any recoil at all. Moving up to HSM's .454 Bear Loads (325gr WFN@1330fps) and Federal Fusion's 260gr .460 Mags (260gr @1500fps) provided serious jug busting power with total comfort. I really like this revolver and look forward to smacking steel with it at 100yds on our next outing! I was also impressed by how those .460 Fusion loads looked compared to my "dinky" little .44mag 240gr XTP hand loads.
