Sharps pepperbox.

I had the unfortunate responsibility of moving my out of state elderly grandmother to a home when she was no longer able to care for herself. We used to call her Mama. She taught me how to shoot her. 22 rifle when I was 4 years old. I loved my grandma.

While taking care of her few personal items, I came across a 4 shot derringer she carried in her purse. I'd never seen anything like it before or since... until today.

I saw a video from Shot Show and this vendor mentioned it. So I Googled it and found...

Antique Arms, Inc. - Sharps 4-shot Pepperbox Pistol

That was it! Or at least maybe she had a replica. This was back in 1985 and the the patent date on it was 1849. I only saw hers once but I knew it was very old. I have no idea if it worked. I certainly didn't know how it worked. I assumed it fired all 4 rounds at once. But this Sharps idea of 4 stationary barrels with a rotating striker seems more like it.

I don't know whatever became of it. My mom was in charge as her conservator and she handled the disposition of all her belongings. Wish I'd thought to ask for it, but I didn't.

I wouldn't have figured it out had not Iver-Johnson brought a replica at Shot Show this year.

I know the name and I know my parents watched the show but it only ran in 58-59. I remember more from the 60's on.
