Things get bad..what do you grab?

Because of my limited number of shotguns (I've got three, but two are short barreled side by sides) I had to re-configure my home defense weapon today. I have a Rem 870 Express 3" 12ga that has two barrels letting it serve as my "do everything" (hunting/defense/clays) shotgun. Since I plan to get out and shoot sporting clays Friday morning I removed the 20", and installed the 28" barrel. Then I got my other home defense long gun out of the safe to assume the duty of being the ready gun. While there are always two handguns available around my residence, I have always been of the school of thought that handguns are what you use to fight your way to a long gun. I live in a house in the country, so my choices are different from what an apartment dweller in the city might want. So, here's the scene: rioting/looting/natural disaster.
To paraphrase the pretty Jennifer Garner...

I live in the country also,,

The first grab is a CZ 75 or Beretta 92.

The long guns depends,, It could go from a 12 gauge full of OO buck, , to an M4, or a 30-06 tack driving bold action.

Depends on who is shooting an me and how far away they are.

I HOPE they are DUMB enough to do it from a distance.

Used to have a loaded firearm in every closet, so something was always near. With the addition of grandchildren all firearms have been relegated to a gun safe except my EDC... It's within reach 24/7.

It looks like the good folks here have a plan. All good options as presented. Glocks and M4's I expected, but the SOCOM16 and Bolt .30-06 are some heavy duty firepower! The comments about grandkids are extremely relevant as we all balance our security with the necessity of having a safe environment for little ones in our homes. That's why I have four safes in three rooms on two different floors of my house.Safe and secure.

Sig 1911 wearing a TLR1-HL is my house gun. If I am heading outdoors, I'll grab a shotgun.

I'm not going into over penetration or anything because I don't care about that especially seeing as alot of you mentioned living away from other houses but......

Those of you who grab a rifle as your home defense weapon, may I ask, have you ever tried to move through your house and clear the building with it? If so, how often do you practice this?

A long gun is useful, but indoors it offers a few distinct disadvantages to somebody who does not train or "go through the motions" too often. I'm not particularily good at it, which is why I choose a handgun for indoors business. I'm always surprised when people show me their full sized home defense shotgun, and then when I ask if they have ever actually cleared their house and searched each room with it in hand, they say "no"

Remington 870 defense model with remington number 4 buck. I live in a town house and share 2 walls with orther town houses and a ruger servie six with corbon power ball. NJ makes hollowpoint ammo problematic legally so power ball is the best compromise/

I'd reach for my Walther P99AS and my Remington 870 Express if it ever came to that (which I obviously hope that it would not). In a situation with multiple intruders, I would reach for my Colt 6920.
