Had my first WTH moment with guns...

Not sure this is the right thread. Almost belongs in minefield... My wife and I are planning on hosting a party for our labs here in a weekend or two. One of our lab-mates brings up the stupid clown business going around and my wife says something to the effect of "they should be glad they haven't been around our place or they'd have a bad date with 125 grains of lead" . Some how the conversation turned to that *gasp* we are gun owners. This lab mate decides she can't come to our party because she doesn't feel safe bringing her kids where guns are accessible ... This despite the fact (and this is true) that if we ever have anyone over, especially kids, all guns and knives (sans kitchen cutlery and the one in my pocket) are locked up in our safes, which themselves are hidden.

She still staunchly will not attend, which is no sweat off my back, I don't really like people anyway, but my wife left the conversation the winner by saying that her preconceived notions and bullheadedness are giving responsible gun owners like herself and me a bad reputation.

Your wife needs to write it off totally and not worry about some Libturds preconceived opinion of you folks. Thats falling right into their trap that THEIR opinion is whats important,, and YOUR opinion is not. Thats just a form of manipulation and control.

Dont even go there with them. You cant fix stupid.

If it was me, and the subject of the party comes up with this person again,, Id make a point of telling them in front of others, in an appologizing manner, that if I had any idea MY invitation was going to offend them, I WOULDNT have done it, I appologize, and WONT be doing it again.

And that would only be done to show them WE ALL can have a great time WITHOUT THEM, and I could care less what they think.

This reminds me of when the house next to me was on sale. There is a swamp behind my house which extends out to a military base, in which there is a hunting club. This lady stopped to look at the literature that the reality company had left for potential buyers. She started walking towards me & asked if there was a hunting club behind the house, & if I ever hear gunfire? I proudly answered yes, I hear shotgun blasts all the time! The woman frowned & said "ewh I don't want that" & walked away back to her minivan. I thought to myself whew, bad neighbor overt'd! I didn't lie to her, I do hear shotgun blasts during dove season, not a hunter but makes me want to go to the range every time I hear it!

Better put up a REALLY OBVIOUS target range right up the property line,,

just in case your not home to help steer the next one off.

maybe hang a target up by the curb, poke a couple holes,,, you know,,

kinda like,, "Mathew Quigley, 900 yards"

When I lived in Mississippi some folks bought a spot of land in a field across from the entrance to the gun club.

After building the house they went to the county and requested restrictions be because of the noise. That didn't work out to well for them.

Sounds like my wife's cousins and my sister they hate guns and will not come into our house without complaining.

My sister-in-law went through that phase for a while - wouldn't bring her kids to our house because of the evil guns lurking in the safe(s), etc.

Then we had the "Occupy Wall Street" anarchists take over a couple of Portland city parks for a few months and the mayor decided to allow "camping" in the city (i.e. homeless people setting up tents and tarp shacks wherever they wanted) and a few months ago she asked if I'd teach her how to shoot.

I decided to be adult and said "I'd be glad to!", without the slightest trace of gloating (on the outside, at least).

The way things are going these days, it won't be long before a lot of the gun-haters are going to be wanting to get their own guns.

To each their own. From the way you described it, they won't be missed a whole lot. Correct?
