Spanish 20

Yesterday I opened the "deep storage" safe to give everything a wipe-down. Along with my first deer rifle, a .45cal muzzle-loader, and sweet old Mauser there was this pretty little shotgun. It's a 20ga SxS made in Eibar Spain that belonged to my father-in-law. When he passed away ten years ago my wife's brother grabbed all his guns (and drove to the pawn shop ) except for a couple hidden under the bed. When my mother-in-law found them she called me to find out what they were worth. Unfortunately neither was an heirloom (a stainless Marlin .22lr Semi-Auto Synthetic w/Fiber Optic sights and the little double-barrel). My research showed they were each selling for a couple of hundred bucks on the market at the time. My MIL said she needed $160.00 for a brake job and I could have either one for that. The shotgun came to live with me. The barrels have been cut down from the original mod/full configuration. It is now a quick handling, open-choked, lightweight gun suitable for quail hunting (pen raised birds you literally kick-up) and informal clay shooting with ladies and youngsters. My niece loves breaking hand thrown clays with it, and knows that it belonged to her Grandpa. It is going to her whenever she wants it...

Thanks, I've always been fascinated by them. I have childhood memories of a great aunt that kept a 12ga SxS by the back door, and an uncle that hog hunted with another one. My father acquired a short barreled 12ga dbl for defense after an associate was killed in a robbery in 1970's Miami. That gun and the little Spanish 20ga are my only double guns....for now.
