IMHO the AR16 was a piece of crap. My right hand hurt from hitting the forward assist.
Yes, I kept it clean.

OK - let's see - been a while. M16A1, colt 45, 4.2" mortar (Track mounted - 2nd Cav), M60, M2, M551 Sheridan with a 152 MM cannon and Shillelagh missile (god it hurt in the drivers compartment if you weren't ready when that main gun went off), M203 and M79 grenade launcher, Law missile launcher. I was Infantry Mortar (11C) but spent some time on the Sheridan at gunnery too when we were light crewed.

A Colt (actually made by Colt) 1911. I traveled around lots, doing paper work. I had a M1 carbine issued to me but preferred a 12 gauge, I think it was a Stevens.

Later, I shot some competition with a M1 and M1A1 after the paper work doings were over.

Old timer here: M-1 carbine, M-14, M-1 Garand, M-16 A-1 and A-2. I did miss out on the flintlock and percussion lock muzzle loaders.

USAF avionics... qualified with the M16. Carried a toolbox the rest of the time spent out on the flightline.

While my primary weapons were colt 1911, M-14 and later M-16 (actually the one issued to me was a XAR-15), I was exposed to a very large variety of weapons. I'd say the most fun weapon I trained with was the 12 gauge pump shotgun loaded with fleschette shells.

I used the M-14 and 1911 in boot camp in 67.
Used the M-1 Garrand in ITR and fired every firesrm in action for grunts in ITR.
M-60 M-79 M-1 carbine. BAR, Ma Duce. 3.5 rocket. Can't remember others.
In Viet Nam I carried a M-16 I found and used briefly a Greese gun and a Thompson.
