my 1st gun was a win single shot mod? 66 that my grandma bought in 1916 with money she earned. I was 10 when she told me it was now mine. the smile lasted a life time. I will hand it down to my grankid some day

I will hand it down to my grankid some day | Grandma's are cool, ain't they! Mine taught me to shoot on her old Remington model 1 that's sitting in my closet along side her Sears, Roebuck 12ga!
I was only 4 yrs old but still remember it in living color.
It's funny, I always think that memories that old should be in black &white! | |

Reminds me of the old pump 22 my grandfather had and used to shoot at the squirrels in his pecan tree. He loved pecans and hated the squirrels but I'm not sure he ever hit any. I was pretty young but I can remember him looking out the window and seeing a squirrel in the tree, grabbing the gun and barging out with the lead flying! They lived in town too. I bet the neighbors really appreciated it.....

I have several memories from before I could walk. I have one very strange one that can't be explained (but I have a theory). I remember a kitchen with black and white counter tiles, the cannisters on the counter and a place in the floor that was missing a linoleum tile with wood showing underneath. Congrats. I'm an old Winchester lover, myself, with an especially soft spot in my heart for those old rimfires. Grew up with a Winchester 67 and, later, a Winchester 69. Those old Winchester 22s were nothing fancy (with the exception of the 52, of course), but, oh, could they shoot. None of this plastic and synthetic stuff, either.

He would see old pictures of his grandparents and my wife and I when we were young, and they were all in black & white.
I would always tell him that back then color hadn't been invented yet and everything looked black and white, and how wonderful it was after the invention of color to see a sunset and green grass and cars no longer had to be white, black,or grey.
I think he pulled that on his kids at one time. Great looking gun 303!! | |
