$80 SP101 ! - Photos

OK - it was $80 plus a Taurus in trade .... And it didn't look like this either. I have posted other threads about finding this used 3" SP101 and making the trade. And then realizing the barrel was canted and it shot low and to left. And sending it off to Ruger where they re-indexed the barrel and went through the trigger group, tested it on their range and shipped it back in all in 10 days total and at no cost to me. (Thank you Ruger!)

After it came back home I checked it out on my local range to make sure all was well (it was!) and proceeded to do a few things: trigger job, Wolff spring pak, new grip, new front sight and some polishing.

It's been a fun project rescuing a forlorn, crooked shooting SP101 and giving it a new look and a happy home. It's now the prettiest gun I own by far.

Thanks to all the great guys and gals here at Ruger Forum who have posted info, threads, links, thoughts, suggestions and how-to instructions. Without the information and help from this site I wouldn't have had a clue about where to start or what to consider in this project. THANK YOU!!

Purty.

I have one as well and think its the best looking pistol I have ever laid eyes on.

Who makes the grips? I like.

Grips are by Jim Badger in Greenville, SC - Custom Wood Pistol Grips & Handgun Grips, including Smith & Wesson, Colt and Ruger Pistol Grips from Badger Custom Grips

Feels good too - in my hand anyway. Had a Hogue on it when I bought which I like as well. If I was going to carry this I would have been happy with the smaller Hogue. This is more of a fun gun now and I like the look and feel of the wood.

Thanks. Yes - but nothing more than with an old T-shirt and Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish. And some time.

I LOVE those badger grips! I wish the GP100's grip was like that the SP101's

Glad to read your problems have been solved as well.

I can't decide between the regular grips or the boot grips and also any imput of why you chose the regular xs dot instead of the big dot sight.
Thanks,
Jim

I went with the regular Badger grip since I wasn't going to conceal this SP101 and I like having a place for my little finger to land on the grip. If I was going to carry it I would probably have gone with the boot grip. Or just kept the Hogue grip.

The XS standard dot was just my personal preference versus the big dot. Can't give you any argument as to why the standard is better than the big dot, I just liked the look of it. As I have gotten older and my eyes aren't as good as they used to be I need something else in place of black blades as a front sight and I really like the crisp white circle the XS has. The tritium is an added bonus to me.
