Very nice. Maybe consider a revolver for a change of pace? I'm really surprised not to see a .22 in your nice collection. A .22 is a staple in most.
And strictly out of curiosity... what draws you to Ruger Forum?

I'm waiting for a Redhawk .44 mag in 4" (see my signature). I do some regular hiking here in Colorado and I want this one for back country protection. I've done a lot of research and IMO this Ruger will suit my needs best.
This site is informative and friendly. Of course I'm on the S&W forum as well, and it is just as informative and friendly. Both companies make quality products, but this Ruger revolver has the advantage this time IMO.
Now, a question for you. I've never considered a .22 for HD or CCW (well, I guess technically my .223 is a .22, right?). Why should I consider a .22? I'm not challenging you, just want good info to make good decisions. I've always had a tight budget, so I make my gun purchases carefully. Right now my weapons are for HD or CCW, except for the AR, which I bought because I got a good deal.
Looking forward to responses...
Thanks

Thanks | .22LR is good, cheap trigger time / practice... time spent at the range can be the most important thing for HD or CCW. |

Yep get a .22 and start practicing. Even on a limited budget, I'm sure you could still afford to shoot 3 times a week with just .22

Any of the 22 lr ar15 clones will let you shoot a lot for not much money or get a ruger 10-22 and have a fun gun as is or change it.

A .22lr is a staple. It has specific uses other than cheap and fun.
A revolver or a semi-auto pistol in .22lr can and has been used for
HD/SD though, as you know, is not widely recommended.
It is an excellent kit gun and has put many a meal on the fire.
Even if you trap, you wouldn't want to 'finish off' your catch
with a .45acp or a .44mag
The round is quiet and it is super available almost anywhere.
There are many reasons for one, and then there are some that will
tell you they live in bear country and the .22lr is of no use to them....
There was an article in Popular Science or Popular Mechanics many
years ago titled 'From Mice To Moose' focusing on the .22lr and
is an incredibly great read......I can't find it anywhere, even with our
modern technology that 'algore' gave us ........please search for it,
you will be glad you did.
The little .22lr is a must to have.....pistol and/or rifle.....
and you may not even know why......until you know why.

Thanks to all for valuable info on .22s. I just found and dropped $$$ for the very elusive Redhawk .44 mag 4" that I have been wanting for some time. After recovery from that, I'll look at .22s. Now I can change my signature.
And 78CJ5, all black means I can acquire another one pretty much unnoticed to the untrained eye with no explaining necessary. Works for me anyway... |

Congrats on the 4" Redhawk 44M! Did you find it at a LGS or one of the sites like GunBroker.com? Just curious and you don't have to reveal your sources if you don't want to . But like you I do a lot of homework on my purchases and usually decide on very specific models and that means the LGS doesn't have exactly what I want. So I end up finding them at a site like GunBroker.Com.
By the way, I like the M&P Shield. If I didn't already have an SR40C that I really like a lot I would be all over that one. Slim single stack, nice feel, great CCW choice. Hmmm...maybe I do need one afterall...... How does it shoot?

Heck, I'm sure that we all (including me) would love to recommend a 10/22 to you as your only .22, but truth is, you can get a Marlin 60 (etc.) for cheaper and so on that will do as good of a job as the 10/22 shooting-wise. It won't have as many accessories for it though.
My point being, if you are on a limited budget, why not get a .22? Cheapest thing I've ever heard of to shoot.

Jhooper gave me a tip that Guns America had one. I called the store listed on the GA site and he had two. My LGS had none. I definately wanted to get one before November 6th if possible.
M&P Shield? Mine's a .40 and it shoots great! You hit the nail on the head - form, fit, and feel for a CCW piece is great. Any reports of massive recoil from the .40 are way overstated. It is truly a great weapon!

I like the .40 S&W round - prefer it to 9MM. My experience is limited - I have an SR40 and SR40C. I bought the SR40 last year and liked it so much I bought the compact version in black for CCW. I've never noticed any recoil issues but my SR40C weighs 23.4 oz. versus your Shield at 19 oz. Glad to hear no issues there.
Mind if I ask which model M&P AR-15 you have? Been thinking about picking up another AR-15 before Nov. 6 and was looking at a few M&P models. Davidson's has the 15OR (optics ready) model on sale and I can get one for $887.99 + fees, etc.. Do you know anything about that model?
