SMITH & WESSON 38 special CTG Modle 10-6

New member to the collection. Smith & Wesson 38 special. From what I was told its an 60s to 70s year modle and it was the gun used by police and detectives. Its in pretty damn good shape for being 30 plus years old. Still accurate and fires nicely. I love how this gun looks and fires. But I still Love SR9c

Congrats on your model 10. The S&W model 10 and the earlier M&P are the classic police issue revolvers carried my police officers back in the day. The Colt Police Positive is right there with the model 10.
I have a model 10 4 inch heavy barrel and a M&P pre 10 4 inch. I feel that anyone that collects revolvers should have a least one S&W model 10.
Good luck,
Howard

What's the serial number? There is a book on Smith & Wesson and a forum dedicated to them as well. Most people there can answer the question.

Ill get the number after I get off work. I don't want to join another forum to ask one? I'm sure I can find out with the serial number. I thought maybe someone would know off hand.

10-6 I think puts it latwe 60s to mid 70s. It has the heavier barrel. If you look older revolvers had a distinct taper, this was replaced in te 60s by the barrel withour taper. this let the shooter have quicker recovery time with the plus p ammunition that was becoming more common.

They are great guns. My 10-5 is 99%+, like new, and I got it for $50 back in the early '70s. I'm tempted to get another one from Buds just for plinking around, but I just got an SP101 lately so can't really justify another 38.

S&W model 10 was our first Duty firearm, when retired we could keep our backup or primary,I kept my Colt Detective special,But regret not keep the S&W 10,On the lookout to buy one like you have,Good luck with yours.

Yeah I love the gun. I put another 200 rounds in it yesterday. Shots perfect with zero issues. Cleans up nicely too.
