Cool My Beretta Project

A month or so ago I picked up a Beretta 71 from Bud's. These are used and are imported by Century from Israel. They come with a ridiculous faux suppressor pinned and welded to it (something to do with import regulations).

I shot it first to see that it worked. The fake can makes it insanely heavy on the muzzle end. After all, the frame is alloy.

I then worked on removing the fake can with a Dremel and a file. The spot weld was well hiddem under the parkerizing. It took a while to find it. The set screw backed out easily.

Next, I cleaned it up, sanded screws that were marred and dinged, and rounded edges on the dinged up frame. The gun was in overall good condition, but it needed some love. I blasted all parts and started to refinish parts (the bluing on the slide wasn't great either).

I parkerized all steel parts except for the trigger. I left the trigger and grips original to keep something original in appearance. The alloy frame was sandblasted and Cerakoted in Waveform's favorite kote- burnt bronze. I considered Cerakoting the slide and barrel, but I ended up liking the parkerized look.

So, here it is. It's a fun and accurate shooter.

The barrel is threaded, but with 1/2x20 threads. I will get an adapter for it to run a real silencer on it (which will need 1/2x28).

Not bad for $300 and some elbow grease...

Ah cool!

I've seen a few of those floating around and wondered how they shot! I'm a fan of Berettas...

This gun in 22 lr had to be imported in the 70s with huge ugly target grips to make import points.

Nice work, Neon! Looks like a fun shooter, and Berettas are just classy looking anyways.

Fake can? WTH?
And welded on?
You have much more patience than I, sir. Well done.

Me, I just paid $399 for my 22/45 Tactical, no sanding, cerakoting, or parkerizing needed. Works fer me.

I buy new as well. I like taking old things and giving them new life. Plus, this Beretta may have been an Israeli Mossad's assassin tool.
