Congrats on the achievement Dr. Marneaus, I also got a lifetime membership a while back. I plan on taking my son with me. Nothing replaces experience and knowledge, so I figured get all you can. My understanding is that lodging is a ways away from the facility, but I understand that they are building a place for you to stay there. What has been your experience with staying in the area? I see that your a lot closer than me to it.

About 18 years ago, I did a defensive handgun locally with a 3" 65 an 4" 66 P&R. It was very enjoyable to use the revolver. I have found myself shooting my 3" 1708 GP100 adj sight and 16 1/2" stainless synthetic .308 scout rifle a lot lately. The revolver is my favorite carry gun when working at home.

I'd like to find a class like that in my area. At my range we're not allowed to draw from a holster & fire & we have to pause a bit between shots. When I took my CCL class I was the only one using a revolver but outshot nearly everyone. Used a rented 2" j-frame .38 at the time. My LCR has a much better trigger & a better grip so I'll use it when I have to renew my license next year.

I keep telling all the guys I work with that revolvers are not dead or outdated, they are all pistol fans 9mm,40 S&W, or 45 acp. My range gun is a Dan Wesson 4" heavy barrel in .357Mag, a fantastic shooter. They call me the old coot for using a revolver but I can out shoot them most of the time.

I used to live in Vegas so I stayed at my house previously. These days I camp out side the gate in the back of my truck the night before class then stay with friends in Vegas. Takes about an hour to get there from Vegas. Plenty of hotels in pahrump though which should only take like 30 min to get there from.:-)

'Pause a bit between shots' lolwut? Is this some complete BS subjective rule about 'rapid fire'?

That's correct, it's flash chromed which is sort of frosted but smooth. The solution is to replace the trigger with one of the stainless ones (I did that for a model 64) and grind and polish the stainless trigger. Another solution is to grind and polish the chromed trigger and send it off to be refinished. Robar would be able to do it in a variety of finishes but NP3 plus would be the best.

The 3" model 65 was one of the best combat revolvers that S&W ever made.

Here's a Ruger Speed-Six and a S&W Model 65:
