I have a leather gun belt from Cabela which is plenty sturdy to hold my GP100 in a Galco Silhouette high ride leather holster tight to my body. I like the leather belt vs a tactical belt because sometimes I wear it with a suit jacket open in the front. Looks nicer and is more discreet.

I also have the same holster for my SR1911 Commander, really like the fit and looks of it. I've been looking at the steel core belts but haven't bitten. I don't live to far from Amish country so I might just see what they have. Thanks for the idea PHRED.

+1 for Bigfoot. I'm a 34 waist and got a 36" at first. Ended up with a 38" after the 7 day exchange policy. Much better and no complaints.

You might want to look at Stokers. I picked one up last month when I was visiting my brother in Tennessee. Their shop is right near his house and the price is right.

I have gun belts from Beltman, Bigfoot, Mitch Rosen and some from the NRA store that I can't remember the maker. All are good belts. I don't really think you need the steel core, but the heaviest I carry are a 4" lightweight 1911, Sig P229 and lately a 3" GP100 at times. I like the heavier belts so well that I've stopped buying any other kind regardless of how I am dressed, carrying or not.

Be a little careful with sizing, I've had to return a few that I ordered from the maker's sizing charts that I would have had to wear in the first hole. Whoever you buy from make sure they offer free exchange if size they recommend does not fit.

There's lots of good leather gear out there. Stay away from thin, cheaply made belts; it's a critical part of the rig and not a place to cut corners.
