Ruger Days or Gun Show?

I'm faced with a bit of a dilemma. My LGS announced that it will be sponsoring "Ruger Days" in the next few weeks, but details have not been announced other than the dates. The weekend following Ruger Days is a local 800 table gun show. Now, I was planning to pick up an LCP. My question is this: Can I expect any discounts or notable swag at Ruger Days, or should I hold out for the gun show?

If its like gun shows arround here the show dealers will be at Ruger Days the weekend befor and buying up the LCPs and anything else they think they can mark up $50 and unload at the gun show. Seriously thats how the gun shows are arround here latly. Brand new SR40 at LGS= $389 gun show SR40 missing the extra mag=$445

Same thoughts here. You "might" get a few dollars off at the gun show, but more than likely you will just end up frustrated by paying the same or more. Plus some tend to pull the extra mag and sell them separately at the shows. Think of it this way, the extra few bucks you "may" spend early can be thought of as "extra shooting time" since you didn't have to wait. It is also nice to have the seller nearby and well known. What is 20 bucks here and there anyway? Just skip one dinner out.

Be glad you can attend gun shows. None are ever in NJ,so I attend them when visiting my daughter and son in law in virginia or in Penn. actually gun shows are technically legal in NJ it is just the required fees and insurance are too much so no one bothers.

I've got three potential events next month: two local gun shows and Ruger Days. I'm gonna be busy AND broke, lol. If nothing else, it will be a great way to spend my time and maybe I'll score a good deal on something.

So anyone know if they normally offer discounts during Ruger Days events? A few weeks ago, they had Glock Days: any new Glock purchased at reg price came with a range bag, box of ammo, cleaning kit, holster and a hat. Smith and Wesson had a similar deal with special pricing, free xtra mag and a hat. I'm just curious if Ruger normally does this kind of stuff.

Have been to a few "Ruger Day's. It's basically just a bunch of Ruger banners and some sales on various models, usually the latest models. Seems the rifles aren't usually any special price but buying one will get you a t-shirt or hat. Always a table with catalogs and stockers available and a rep there to answer questions.
Have usually found the reps decent although they're not going to tell you secrets and don't know when your dealer's order will be filled. (you'd be surprised some of the stupid questions ppl ask them ) Another scheduled for later this yr. Might go, might not.

I can'timagine there being a lot of room to deal with on an LCP, so the amount saved might not be that much.

On the other hand, the gun shop event might result in your getting at least a fair price along with the hats, t-shirts, and assorted stuff mentioned above. It will also score you some points at the gun shop and establish you as a "regul;ar" paying customer rather than a tire kicker (like me). In turn, this may help get you better deals or help there in the future.

Also, your local shop will be there for you if you have a problem or need a favor. If it were me, I'd patronize the local folks and save the gun shows for larger or uncommon purchases.

Good luck ...

Thanks for the replies.

I ended up buying an LCP at Ruger Days. I'm glad, too. The gun show was a joke. I was really disappointed. Someone should tell those guys that not everyone wants to trick out AR's or shotty's with cheap accessories or buy outdated cleaning supplies. The ammo was more expensive than my LGS. Oh, and don't get me started on the "WWII Memorabilia".

Anyway, I'm glad to have supported my LGS once again. I'm sure I'll skip the next "Gun Show".

On a lighter note, I'm really diggin' my new LCP.

If you have a dealer that you normally do buisness with (provideing you like the particular dealer), buying ammo, maybe other guns before, I find that I can work a lot better with a dealer than I can at a gun show. The only thing I do at gun shows normally is look at different products and then go back to me dealer who knows I will spend money now and in the future with them. If you looking to buy a new gun I doubt you can get it cheaper at a gun show than at your dealer especially if a manufacturer is having special days.

Gun shows sometimes they will bargain,Your regular gun store that yoou patronize will give you a better deal for repeated sales, and if theres a problem they are close by to you,Gun show dealers can be 100s of miles from the shows requiring shipping and no contact,Just My experiences.
