Ruger Security Six Anniversary model

I purchased this today at a gun show for $400.00, this is like new, I know that the older gentleman said he forgot about it in his safe. The pistol is stainless steel , adjustable sights. barrel is 4 inch. It came with a Red Cardboard box w/ manual dated 1/76, marketing data card and NRA membership, paper, also outer cardboard box, with writing on it Ser#, etc. Should I shoot this one, also did I pay too much. Thanks for any help also it say's Made in the 200th year of American Liberty.

No you didn't pay too much by a long shot. Based on your description I would say you did well. Prices of the old Sixes have risen dramatically recently with auction prices topping out in the $600 - $800 range for like-new examples of models that are not considered to be very rare. The Liberty models are generally worth a premium in themselves. $400 sounds like a good deal!

As for shooting it - I would! It has likely been shot already and you really can't hurt it by shooting it some more. Enjoy it!

I don't think you paid too much for that fine gun... especially in today's crazy marketplace. Nice thing is there's still ammo available...

I'd shoot it for sure. For one, you known you want to (I honestly don't get buying a gun not too shoots). Two, Ruger made something like 1.5+ million six series revolvers and they only went out of pruduction in 1988. So as much as they may be hard to find sometimes they are not especially "collectible" in the sense of something rare, or particularly unique. They were and are just well made working firearms and I think should be used as such still (and the reason they are hard to find is because those of us with some have no intention of parting with them during this lifetime )

My 4" or 3" stainless service six are sitting on my nightstand more often than not, doing HD duty.

That is a good price for that gun. Congratulations on the find. Would love to see pics if you can manage. As for shooting it, I think you have to decide that. It is your gun.

Welcome to the forum.

Sure if you get them onto photobucket or something similar. And then when posting use the image icon () and add the URL to your image.

If it's a .38 spl. (only), it's a rare one as that model / cal. was not cataloged in 1976.

Far as I'm concerned, and for whatever my opinion's worth...you definitely did not pay too much.
