Value of Red Label

Hi guys I am a Ruger Forums newbie! I own around 7 Ruger firearms, the SR22 being my new favorite!!

How would a hand go about finding out a true value of a firearm? My buddy is trading me a 95%-100% Ruger Red Label DU edition with engraving done by Daniel Smith for an AR15. It has the green lined case, 7 chokes and is a beautiful gun. I told him I am going to turn around and sell it, so what would be a good asking price for the gun? I don't know anything about over and unders, except they have 2 barrels instead of one. Can't find a whole lot of information on Rugers website regarding the Red Label either. Thanks for any help.

Don't know the value but you can check some of the gun auction sites for reference.

Gunbroker.con
ebang.com
Gunsamerica.com
gunauction.com

Just put Ruger Ducks Unlimited Red Label Shotgun n the search box. This should give you an idea of what is being asked and what they are selling for.

Just checked and there is one on Gunbroker.com asking $2200, no bids and ending in 6 minutes.

Welcome to the forum from SW Florida.

The sites above are a good place to start, just remember there can sometimes be a big difference between asking prices and selling prices. Red Labels are great shotguns (I have 3) but for whatever reason the shotgun snobs never gave them their due. So they don't fetch the prices a Browning Citori and other european models get. I use GunBroker a good bit and that may be a good place for you to sell your shotgun. List it in an auction with good pictures and a good description and have a reserve you are comfortable with. Then wait for the right buyer to come along. You may have to go through a few auction cycles but someone will come along eventually.

By the way, what guage? Standard stock or straight English stock? Just curious - they're beautiful shotguns! Good luck.

Red Labels don't bring near the money or sell fast as some other brands do in my area. I really had to give away a Red Label 12 gauge, unfired, perfect in the box, with outstanding wood for $680.00. Even most gun stores don't even carry them in my area. I was really sick but finally gave up trying and this was the only offer I ever received...needed the money to buy a M1A. Now talk about a rifle that has went up in price over the years, I wished I had bought one years ago. Even used M1A's sell for unbelieveable prices around here. Some guns hold their value I guess while other don't.

It is true that the Red Label's just do not bring good prices on the market. It's unfortunate that most trap/skeet shooters are mostly just snobs about their guns, they all seem to feel that it takes a 6K European gun to compete in the sport.

As mentioned earlier, hit up the auction sites for a good idea of what you can expect to get from your gun. Local, state, and nationwide classified spots are also another way to go, just search for "used gun classifieds".

I bought my Red Label new 6 years ago for $1,125 wholesale. It isn't a special edition just an excellent shotgun for me as it fits like it was custom made. What you get is what someone is willing to pay. Mine has about 6,000 shells thru it but is still in excellent shape so I wouldn't ask less than I paid if I ever looked to sell it. A special edition I have no clue the value. I imagine a blue book would have the info.
