| Which one would you choose?
Work has kept me on the road and away from my computer for a while now.
I'm not sure if it's a good thing that I miss this forum while I'm on the road. I may be hooked.
Anyway I do get a chance to check out gun shops while I'm out on the road.
Three Rugers have caught my eye recently. All are $500 or a little less. I can afford one right now. I really would like all, but cash is a little tight. So. while I'm able to, I would ask the forum. Which would you choose or not.
#1 - Single Six Convertable. Three screw with black and red box, paper work, extra cylinder with the velvet bag. I would say the gun is in 98% condition. The box shows some wear. $500
#2 - Ruger carbine 44mag. Pre-safety roll mark. In good condition. Needs a cleaning. Minor wear on the metal butt plate and the stock has a few scuffs, nothing deep. No box or paper work. Serial# 100-482XX still looking to find out what year it was manufactured. It may be over priced for the year.$450
Still checking GB on this one.
#3 - Ruger No.1 in 45-70. Has scope rings attached. Blueing is about 98%. The stock has some marks on it like something smacked it a few times by the grip. Not sure if they would steam out. $500
All three are on my wish list. I don't mind doing a little work cleaning them up.
Any sugguestions?

Me, the three screw would hold the attraction.

Hard to find any #1 for that price so it would be first with the single six next. All would be used so the % and collector would go down some and I don't like paying collector price for a useing gun

Get that #1, they are usually real shooters, and that is a great price.
Course it depends on what you do, hunt, camp, hike, ranch rifle, plinking?

#1 for sure. if you like chasing brass get the 44 carbine, I learned early on not to shoot next to the edge of the road in the mountains if you want to collect your brass.

I have number 1 exactly as you described it.....and it is a blast too shoot! accurate as all get out, ANNNND got my girlfriend into shooting so Im a little partial to the three screw. Only difference is my box is in pretty crappy shape.

Like xtratoy said, I hate chasing empty reloadable brass all over the countryside.
That's why I just got a 10/22.
Single Six, cheapest plinker, ammo wise, and I love Old Models anyway. |

The No. 1. 45-70 is a great round and the No. 1 can easily handle the commercially available heavy 45-70 ammo from Garrett and Buffalo Bore.

Single-Six. In true 98% and including the box, that's not a bad price.
Nothing wrong with the others . . . I'm just a single-action guy. |

I would have to say the #1 would win but the 44 carbine would come in second.

If it were me, it'd be the .44 mag, the 3 screw and then the #1. I say that because where I live, a 45/70 would be overkill, IMO, for any game we have in Florida. Also, I don't know your collection of arms, however for me, the 45/70 would be filling a bill already filled in my collection. I'd have to decide on the 3 screw cause I am a sucker for SA pistols and they are fun and cheap to shoot. But the ,44 would be an all around rifle for my outdoor activities. It probably does not help I'm looking for one.

I would probably go for the 44 and then the single six.
