Arkansas Open Carry Bill Signed into Law

I just found out about it, this afternoon, when I went into one of the local gunshops.

I guess it was a few days ago, and won't go into effect until in July sometime.
I read an article by Arkansas Concealed Carry.com they had printed off, so this isn't the official notice or anything. But it said that basically anyone can carry either open or concealed as long as it's not for an unlawful purpose. That might have to be defended in court if an officer thinks you are up to no good or something.

You don't have to have a CCW license or any training but they do advocate getting training as a good idea, and of course they suggest you take the CCW course so you can carry out of Arkansas.

So, I don't know what to think. I like the idea of being able to open carry if I want to, and it makes me feel better about carrying a full sized gun in a strong side holster, but if I did, I would probably still keep it covered, I just might not worry about flashing so much, and for me that's the nice thing about the law.

I guess we will learn more about it as we go along. Open carry still might alarm some people, so doing might not be without it's problems and risks.
But also living in a rural area like I do, it makes it a little more friendly to carry, out on the farm or between farms, stopping at the store, etc., I guess.

Thats great news. I hope it doesn't cause any problems for those that don't like firearms. It sounds like your state has done what every state should do.

brianinpa will become famous soon enough
Probably going to be a lot of calls by "concerned citizens" about a man with a gun... Oh my. But on the plus side, it does cause criminals to pause a little.

I'm pretty sure you got some bogus info. Last I heard on the news, the open carry bill feel just short of the votes it needed.

Arkansas is going in the correct direction - toward more human rights.

LITTLE ROCK ó A bill to allow Arkansans who have concealed handgun permits to carry handguns openly in rural, unincorporated areas of the state failed for the second time Tuesday to clear a House committee.

House Bill 1408 by Rep. Sue Scott, R-Rogers, failed in the House Judiciary Committee in a 10-5 vote. It needed 11 votes to clear the 20-member committee.

Yep....that's what I'm talking about. You have to watch out for that gun shop gossip.

I get the whole open carry argument. I won't open carry because the average person freaks out and the bad guys can't be trusted. If you see my gun, either something bad just happened, or is about to.

I wouldn't either most of the time, but would sure love to have the option to.

Well, I hope I am not wrong. I got the info from the gunshop, and they also had a copy run off of a computer, from a website called Arkansasconcealedcarry.com, I believe. That's where I read it.

I know I heard that an open carry bill failed, back a while, but this has supposed to have been signed into law by the Governor, and only one legislator voted against it. Anyway, that's what I read. I don't know anything else, I suppose it could be false. It looks like it warrants more investigation.

It reads like a loop hole in the law that needs to be tested. Did you read the part about not doing it without consulting with a lawyer?
