I had a CCW permit in '85 in Indiana. I had to show I "needed" one to the local sheriff. IFRC, they were hard to get.

Pretty simple process for me. Went to local PD and filled out paperwork. Got fingerprinted and everything was sent in to be run. No questions asked about the need of having one.

Indiana is a "Shall Issue" state. That means unless there is clear reason a CC permit should not be issued, IT WILL BE ISSUED. A criminal background or a presently active restraining order would be two examples of a justifiable reason to refuse to issue.

If you live in a town or city you will apply at the local police department.

If not you will apply at County Sheriff's office of the County in which you legally reside.

Detailed instructions will be provided which ever agency you deal with.

You will pay a fee to the office where you apply. You will have to get the completed application notarized which may or may not cost you a fee depending on several things. You will need to send a money order in with your application. Expect a delay of several weeks.

Years ago I went to the local sheriff. My son recently got his and said they prefer you do as much online as possible. You will, at sometime, have to go get fingerprinted. Make sure you apply for the lifetime license. I'm guessing the wait time will increase as more folks see the writings on the wall and apply for their own licenses.

Here in Indiana, our License is good for your lifetime if you're an Indiana resident. I'm not sure how it works for non-residents.
We call our paper a "License to Carry A Handgun", not a permit, and the "CC" isn't a part of it. In Indiana, if you have the license you can carry concealed or open; it's your choice. Indiana recognizes the permit or license of many, if not all the states which issue them.

It is very simple. As said before do as much as possible online. It may take a little longer do to the high volume of people going through the process right now.

As stated above IN is a "shall issue" state. That being said although the background check goes through the state police your application and actual permit is issued by your county LE branch and varies widely as far as time, convenience, etc.

I live in Marion Cnty. (Indianapolis) which takes a little while just due to volume but is still very easy. Just fill out the form, submit fingerprints (either through county LE or approved contractor), wait for permit to show up in the mail.
