Agreed! But that is not the point of this thread. It is the VA hospitals not allowing them in the parking lots, locked in cars. No other Federal installation, except military, that I'm aware of, bans guns in parking lots in locked in cars. There may be some, but not Post Offices, Federal buildings or others that we would normally visit as citizens, ban guns in cars parked in their parking lots. VA Hospitals can be quite a distance from one's home. In my case it is about a 200 mile drive (round trip) to visit the nearest VA Hospital. I've been there twice in the past 6 months. Once for a 5 minute exam and the other for an eye exam. If I carry a gun in my vehicle for protection during that drive, I can't enter the VA grounds legally (and the nearest off grounds parking is a mile away). There isn't a guard at the gate, so it is just a problem if you get caught. A victimless crime, to be sure.

The VA hospital has the right to search you and your car anytime they want when you are on VA lands .[ Big time fines ] . The same thing on military bases too . Watch out carrying on Indian reservation , some federal and state parks are bad news also . I've carried since 1968 in Pa , Ca , Az , Tn and Tx and seen a lot of changes good and bad ..

That fine for ammo is not a thing I've seen or heard of before. There's always a stray round or two in my truck, and certainly several brass cases. Do you have any links to that reg?

I see the sign that says all guns are banned at the VA hospital I go to, but there's nothing about ammo on it. I'm there once or twice a month and will be going back on Monday, so I'll read it closely this time.

Nurses should be armed at all times, and not just with needles.

Your message didn't seem to resonate very well with the hospital shooters in Akron, OH, Sycamore, IL, Orlando FL, Knoxville, TN, Baltimore, MD, and Chicago, IL and any others that I'm not aware of.

Guns make a lot of people nervous. What makes nurses so special?

Nurses have made me nervous for the past 28 years. All they have ever had to do was to hold up a catheter and I became a model patient.

In my case I was conscious enough to tell a responding police officer and he secured my firearm til my wife arrived. He then gave it to her and told her to secure it. A good deputy Sheriff. Wasn't a big deal to him.

I've been subject to "random" car searches at Federal facilities. They don't need probable cause for that.

Call the VA hospital police in Nashville and ask them . Remenber they have the right to do random seach to anyone as a person and or your car or truck . I quit parking on VA parking lot after they nailed my buddy . Remember it is a big deal since 9/11 . So Go for it

A couple of opportunities here.
1. I see this as an area that needs a law or policy change, where should a campaign to change this begin? With the VA, or with local Reps and Senators?
We all know it is ridiculous that veterans should not be trusted, once in a while one goes "over the top" but 99.8% are more level headed than the average citizen when it comes to gun control.

2. A nearby gun shop or range needs to add some lockers.
