Quit a few years ago (I was in my 40's) I was traveling on business and stopped at a Holiday inn in Citrus hights California near Sacramento...in a suit and a rental car...went in the side door from the parking lot...young (ethnic) man opened the door and said welcome to the Holiday..I walked up to the front of the hotel past the magazine shop and went in for a paper...noticed the kid still hanging around and when I looked at him he ducked back in the doorway....registered and walked back down the same hallway to the elevators...I walked by the door where he was still standing but he was sort of looking out the door. I'm a big guy and in those days a handful (no carry then)...had a carry bag and a hard Samsonite briefcase...sort of felt him fall in behind me....I walked into the hallway with the elevators...no one around and pushed the button...then turned quickly...he was standing there...I dropped the suit bag and swung the hard case samsonite at him and hit him on the shoulder and up alongside his head...the case was heavy with books so really hit him hard..knocked him back and he almost went down...at the same time told him "we're going to do it right here and now"...he looked at 6'2 and 240# of angry man and he turned and ran down the hall and out the door....I figure he was going to get on the elevator with me and do whatever he had in mind...I think I surprised and scared the hell out of him and he just wanted no part....I had no gun and guess he didn't either...might have had a knife but wasn't willing to play and I'm very glad...reported it to the desk and they said they'd had a couple of assaults in the parking lot in the recent past. I would probably have pulled had I been carrying...just part of being on the road for a lot of years...I was very lucky in many cases and many ways.

Bought my first handgun +40 years ago.
Have carried off and on over the years, often because of dictates of the job I was working. Some sent me into pretty dicey situations.
There have been times I wished I had a gun, but never a situation where I actually needed one.
I have wondered if things would have turned out differently if I had been armed in a couple of those situations, and what that would have meant.

Was robbed 3 times twice at gun point and once hit in head with bat. Don't know if carrying would have helped any. I was a delivery driver in the Hood for 30 years and was required to collect cash from customers. Never got shoot but was out for 2 weeks with bat incident.

once in my younger years my father and i were were walking in a wooded area near our home and we were suprised by a pack of four large dogs. a few of them growled and slowly circled us. neither of us had anything to use as a weapon incase they attacked. as it happened, we stood very still, and they went on their way after a moment. I dont want to be in a situation like that ever again, and now that im well beyond old enough to carry, I choose to. an ounce of prevention...

This is one area of CCW people often overlook, protecting yourself and your loved ones from viscous animals on the loose. I keep seeing more and more pit bulls in my area, and I wonder what might happen if one of those things got loose, especially considering some of their owners in my area look to be equally as viscous as their dogs themselves.
If one of those things or some other vicious wild animal ever corners me or charges at me in an aggressive way, I won't hesitate to find out just what my CCW can do.

No, that has never happened to me since I was 18 years old, & it ain't likely to happen any time in the future. At least until I'm no longer able to hold a gun & fire it !!

When I pulled up, there was a car, motor running, with driver. I looked inside, and two guys were there, one near the cooler, the other at checkout. At checkout there was a female clerk and there didn't seem to be anyone else there. Her body language told me there were red flags were going up everywhere. I stayed in my car, took my revolver out of the pouch and just sat there. I had a CB, but no cell phone at the time. The diver began to look nervous, and the two guys, seeing my car outside with headlights on and watching, exchanged looks, and quickly walked out and drove away.
After they drove away I walked in the and the clerk told me she was so glad I drove up, because she thought a robbery or something else was going down. I asked her if she was by herself and she said she was night manager and working alone. I recommend she talk with the owner ASAP and change that. In any case, I was carrying in my car, watching, and in no doubt most likely prevented a robbery or worse.
I don't travel as much overnight anymore, but I always carry. | Hey guy, thats a great story. Just goes to show that just having a presence can and does make a difference. Great job!!!!!

My wife and I were on a walk in our rural area and were approached by a real mangie looking coyote. It wandered off and was later shot by a neighbor. It was taken to a vet and found to be rabid |

I was mowing my lawn when the neighbor's pit bull ripped the wooden privacy fence apart and started charging at me. I tried to lift the mower up to get it to jump into that instead of on me but that didn't work so I made a mad dash to the house as fast as I could.
I still don't know how that dog didn't catch up to me. I think he was more interested in the mower as I have heard from a couple of owners that pits don't really like the noise and they get aggressive towards it.
That dog ended up doing the same thing to their neighbors fence on the other side and almost killed their boxer puppy. Poor dog had to get stitches around the neck.
If I had been carrying in when that happened I would have plugged one right in the head.

So these didn't happen to me, but rather friends and family and forever changed my outlook.
When I was growing up, my aunt owned a small local flower shop in an iffy neighborhood. My cousin was around 4 at that time, she had a lot of health problems and wasn't full on school aged yet so my aunt had a 'play' area in the shop for her. Well one day in comes thug, snatches my little cousin up by the hair and presses a knife to her throat and starts demanding cash. They plea with him, give him the cash, and he proceeds to lock them in the floral freezer, throwing my cousin in like a rag doll before stealing my aunts car to get away. What kind of man would do that to a small, sick child ill never know. I will also NEVER forget the look in my grandpas eyes when that call came in. There was a rage there I hope to never know.
A few years ago my best friends brother was leaving a bar in downtown Louisville. As he walked to his car he was jumped by 4 men and beaten with bats, and left unconscious in the street.
And even now just a couple weeks ago, a friend of the family was shot in the head point blank with a 12 gauge at our local walmarts parking lot - in broad daylight - by a crazy ex boyfriend.
There's evil in this world guys. Its a sad, terrible thing, but its a fact.
