| What brand ammo do you CCW with?
I've been reserching self defence ammo on youtube. For me I carry a 9mm Sr9c. From what I've seen the Speer gold dot is one of the best. I bought some Federal hydroshock at Walmart and discovered later, on youtube, it's not worth a crap as for expansion. Any other opinions? Thanks.

Until I started reloading I just carried with my fmj plinking ammo. Now my 9mm is full of 124 gr. XTPs and the .40 is stuffed with 180 gr. XTPs. I'm sure they would do just fine. I've shot deer with my .50 cal. muzzle loader stuffed with saboted .45 cal. 230 gr. XTPs and they are awesome. Exit holes you could put your fist into. I wouldn't want to be a bg shot with one. The thought of it makes me shudder.

Some people look at ballistics and expansion and base their carry ammo on that. The most important thing is to insure that it is a quality ammo that doesn't have a history of FTF or rusting or any other know issues with the ammo.
Some people swear by Full Metal Jacket and others want Jacket Hollow Points. I have seen .22 calibers kill people and other people have survived a .45 ACP point blank, yes a larger bullet or more expansion play into the likelihood of killing someone. My goal when I pull the trigger is to end the threat not necessarily to kill the individual.
Your ammo is whatever you are comfortable with, I personally carry Federal Hydro Shock and that is good enough for me since it is a quality ammo that I know will fire when I pull the trigger. I carry a 9mm and I feel confident that it will protect my family and myself if need be.

I use either Winchester PDX1 or Speer Gold Dot - which ever is in stock when I go shopping.

These are the two channels that I've watched experimenting with different ammo on youtube. "tnoutdoors9" and "DocTacDad".

Since I have experienced good results with both Speer Gold Dots and Federal Hydroshoks, my carry load alternates between them in my SR9c. For range practice, I use PMC 9mm 115gr FMJ's.
Works for me!

Federal HST 124 +P is the way to go! Expansion is ridiculous. I carry it in my LC9 and the .45 version in my SR1911.
Watch tnoutdoors9 review @
You can purchase it for 24.97 for 50 rounds at AmmunitionDepot

Just swapped the Federal Hydrashocks for Winchester 147 grain HPs from Wally World. $19.97 a box of 50 and THE absolute most consistent 9mm round I have found.

I carry Hornady Critical Defense in .380 (LCP) and 9mm (LC9); Gold Dot in .357 Magnum, .40 S&W and .45 ACP. On the occasions that I carry my .44 Special, I have Hornady Critical Defense for "in town" and a home-brewed 200 grain hard cast lead for trail use.
I don't generally carry my .44 Magnum concealed (it's a 7.5" Ruger Redhawk), but when I carry it for bear-deterrance, I use a 300 grain Buffalo Bore JFP.
