Winchester PDX1 124gr+P 9mm
Remington Golden Saber 125gr+P .38 Special
Hornady 110gr+P FTX .38 Special
I'd also opt for Speer Gold Dots.

I use Hornady Critical Defense .38 in my SP101. I like that it's made for short barrel pistols.

It depends on what kinda' day it is. For ammunition termed as premium or self-defense, depending on what's available at the time I currently have on hand and carry;
38Sp - Speer Gold Dot +P, Winchester Silver Tip +p
357Mag - Winchester Silver Tip, Hornady FTX, Hornady XTP
9mm - Remington Golden Saber +P, Speer Lawman
40 S&W - Speer Gold Dot +P, Federal Hydra-Shok
45ACP - Remington Golden Saber +P

+1 for Speer Gold dot. I would also use Winchester Ranger Bonded if I had some.
Currently in my SD pistols:
9mm - 124gr +P Speer Gold Dot LE
40 S&W - 165gr Speer Gold Dot LE, or 165gr Winchester PDX1.

For SR 22 (Wife's CCW choice): CCI Stinger, 32 grain
For LCR 38: Hornady Critical Defense, 38 Sp +P, 110 grain
For SP 101, 4.2" barrel: Hornady Critical Defense, 357 Mag, 125 grain.
I pray God we will never be tested on the wisdom of our choices.

At the monent I am carrying Hornady .38+P in my Sp-101 magnum, but I'll carry just about any .38/.38+P. Either way if it comes down to it, whatever I carry is capable of making holes in my target(s).

I would throw my .02 cents in here and say to defer to law enforcement...I carry gold dots and golden saber...carie by state and city police, both cycle wel, but i prefer god dot (sqbers dont seem to stay fused on impact versus GD)...several have alluded to the legal question, which, in my opinion, is extremely important. Carry reloads or anything not customarily backed by LEO's and you risk scrutiny if involved in a shooting - criticism from lawyers and, potentially, a jury of people with no clue about firearms...
For example, be prepared to answer - in testimony - why you used Zombie Max as opposed to, say, golden saber - i.e., why did you feel it necessary to carry 'zombie' ammo? Are you taking your responsibility to bear arms seriously or did. You just want to kill someone? Et al...
If you can say, 'hey, I carry gold dots (or whatever) because the FBI/local police/state police carry them and I figured they had been vetted by law enforcement so they were suitable for me' you remove all shadow of a doubt...
Not a knock one those from other schools of thought, as most are pretty solid in their conviction, but food for thought.

I carry Hornady Critical Defence in my 9mm and Hornady TAP in my .40 S&W.

Don't get into all the hype!! Find a good JHP and use that. Remember it doesn't matter what you are shot with- you are still shot! A well placed round won't care what it is made of.

I think many are injecting imagined lawyer hype into the issue. Having a father who was in law enforcement and having a best friend that is a senior PD officer and friends &customers that are attorneys, the first thing a DA asks is "was it justified under state law". The story ends or begins there. What you shot 'em with doesn't matter. In the several defense shootings in the near by area the last several years not one shooter has be arrested or sued.
