| Do you carry with your kids?
I carry concealed but when I'm with my grandson, say going to Walmart or just shopping it makes me a little nervous. I'm just wondering how you all feel about it. Do you carry when your with your kids or grandchildren? Haven't read anything about this and would like to know what other CCW carriers practice.

If it makes you uncomfortable you should not do it. You have the right to carry, but not an obligation.

Never had a problem carrying around kids. My grandchildren our others. My holster securely holds my .45 ACP and I act accordingly.

I would think it could depend on one's skill level with the children & cc. How many kids would you have at one time, their ages (little hands to hold onto, diaper bags, shopping bags, keys) Are the kids well behaved or are they running around. In other words, how focused & in control will you be with the task at hand. Everyone is different with these skills.

I have always carried when out w/ my boys. I carry to defend my family, not to fight crime.

This is a good question. I carry a firearm to protect myself and my family at all times. The only reason I carry is for our safety so I carry all the time.
However if you are not comfortable carrying around your grandchildren then by all means don't.
If you decide to I would make sure for certain that you have a very good holster and are aware where your grandchildren are at all times, pocket carry probably (in a holster) is the most secure when children are around (Mine has a tendency to sneak up on me from behind). I remember always trying to sneak up on my grandfather and pulled on his clothes.

I do not have kids so my opinion is of little importance. That said, if you are concerned about carrying when your grandkids are with you, perhaps a chat with their parents would help settle the issue one way or the other. If they are for it, the confidence you gain from their trust in your CCW abilities should be all you need to carry with confidence (the only way one should carry, IMHO). If they are not supportive, you would then be free to make the decision to leave your gun at home with greater peace of mind, knowing that the parents preferred it that way.

I remember always trying to sneak up on my grandfather and pulled on his clothes. | This is the bottom line. Carrying is an incredibly big decision to make, one that carries with it a huge responsibility. I think of it along the same lines as I did when my dad stepped into his big rig day in and day out. He and I butted heads from time to time, but the one thing I know for sure is that when he snapped that seatbelt on his mind was clear and his only priority was to get himself back home without doing any damage to anyone else on or around the roadway that came withing range of the deadly weapon he was in control of and responsible for. He was the definition of a professional.
Likewise, anyone who isnt 100% sure that they should be carrying a gun for any reason would do well to reconsider their choice on that given day. That is the only professional choice to make

I always carry, with or with out family. There is one rule I have though, if something happens that someone approaches with the intent to commit a crime with a gun or knife or anything, they are not to say a word or even a hint that I have a gun. I don't want to bad guy to know I have a gun. My family knows that they are to just hide and cover up and I will do the rest. I don't want anybody i am with to telegraph that I am armed.

A friend had an encounter yesterday where this shady person (making noises and yelling at my friend) was coming towards him and his kids (toddlers) in a bowling alley parking lot (during the day). My friend got between his kids and the person approaching them. He didn't draw, but he did put his hand on his holstered pistol. Right when he put his hand on the gun, the guy turned and went the other way.

I look back and I can't remember a time when I didn't have a weapon on me, through kids and grandkids. There were times when mine were in diapers that a .45 rode in the bottom of the diaper bag
