I too carry for the protection of my family.
How many of them are with me at any given time is not important. The obligation is still there and I become more focused on my surroundings if the grandkids are with us...

I do. My son is only 4, and it has been important IMO to teach him to never point guns at people (toys at his age obviously)....i find myself carrying LESS when i'm alone, than when i'm with my wife or son.
if someone pulls a gun, i'd probably try to run like hell. if my wife or son are with, THEY will run like hell, and i'll stand in the way, guns blazing. at least, thats how i picture it in my head....kinda like kevin costner! lol

Do you carry when your with your kids or grandchildren? Haven't read anything about this and would like to know what other CCW carriers practice. | Yes I sure do, they are one of my assets I want to protect, I don't let them know I am carrying just like I don't want the public to know either.

I don't want to bad guy to know I have a gun. My family knows that they are to just hide and cover up and I will do the rest. I don't want anybody i am with to telegraph that I am armed. | Great responce and good advice to the family. I carry any time I am out of the house. When inside there is always something handy and close that I can get too. My youngest grandkids that go anywhere with me are 10 and 12 years old I don't believe they even know that I'm packing and they are part of my reason to carry.

Having young kids (5, 7, 9) does not change my reason for carrying my weapon. It confirms it.

I always carry but my kids are all grown. If the grandkids come to visit I put all but my carry piece in the safe. I'm not worried that one will remove my carry piece without me knowing. I try not to show my guns around my grandkids as they are all little. IMO, it would just peek their curiosity, especially with little boys. When they're older I'd love to teach or go out with them shooting.

I carry everywhere all the time, it is even more important if grandchildren are along because they can not protect themselves. If you have issues with the method of carry or safety of having a handgun while with children then you need to resolve those issues weather there are children along or not. The safety rules and safe carrying practices are the same where ever you are and whoever you are with.

I can't imagine that would change anything, only confirm it.

I carry when I'm with my kids. Also when I'm without them. Ditto for when I'm at the supermarket, the movie theater, the book store, church, etc...you get the idea. That whole "better to have and not need, than to need and not have" thing makes enormous sense to me. Bottom line: If I'm in public, I'm armed.

P.S.: Plus two reloads, pepper spray, and a pretty serious Cold Steel knife.

Having kids with you or not does not change the possibility of someone doing you harm.
If you normally carry without them, you should carry with them. It's not like anyone would even know you are carrying anyway.

As with the majority of the responses here - I carry to protect my family and myself. I am not a LEO and have no desire to be a vigilante crime fighter. I do hold my family's safety as paramount so I do carry when my children are with me and whenever legally possible.
