This is likely illegal on several issues. Segregation, identification/association with a particular building, invasion of privacy. CU will likely face another legal challenge to their policy.
On the other hand, it my be the safest building on campus.

I'm also concerned about what other information the state is willing to give up to whoever wants it. These are public records but it makes me now wonder about other public records. Can I look at a license plate and then go to the DMV to get the owners information or is that protected?

That policy will just tell bad guys which building would be the safest for them to rob, rape, or murder some student. Bad idea.

This from the state that had Columbine and Aurora. Maybe this is their way of population control. It seems like they're doing whatever they can to prevent people from protecting themselves and others.

Not right but if I had to choose, I would rather be separated off with the permit holders!

Jim | Excellent point. How many others on campus could say the same thing.

Come on folks. Let's get real.
Just how many graduate students live in dorms?
To get a CC permit in Colorado you must be at least 21. Humm, 21, that's four years of being a student at CU (YES, there would be exceptions! But let's get real). Do you REALLY think we are considering anything beyond eight or ten people? Out of over 25,000 students, how many are over 21 AND LIVE IN THE DORM? |

However, a lot of college seniors are 21 - I was and had my CCW as soon as I turned 21 (Washington state).
Depending on the city/town the university is located in, graduate student housing can be very popular. For example, if you're a graduate student at Stanford (which, being in CA, doesn't need to worry about students with CCW permits), you can't afford even a studio apartment in Palo Alto (heck, I don't think I could afford one). Or, if you're a graduate student at WSU or OSU, there's a shortage of decent apartments in Pullman or Corvallis, so graduate student housing can be a Godsend.

I don't see it as just a single issue. What other public information should they publish about students and facilty? Drug arrests and convictions, abuse or violence arrests? Bad driving records and then the students and staff turn their cars in at the end of the day?
The policy is obviously a knee jerk reaction but the real issue is mental instability. As others have pointed out, the ones with the CCL have been vetted by the FBI, State, and many times local authority. How many of the facilty can pass that scrutiny?
I don't now where to draw the line about mental state and how much a medical professional knows about a person but am wondering if that isn't the discussion we should be having.
