| pistol permit is insane in my town
This is why I never followed through last time after taking the NRA course in 2008. This is the process is my town. Its absolutely nuts and requires so much of my time that I simply don't have.
1. 3 letters of reccomendation with names and assesses of contact person.
2. NRA certifaction course copy
Q
3. Copy of drivers liscence
4. Copy of birt certificate
5. Fingerprinted at police station by appointment only. Monday through Friday 8 to 3:30. Meaning ill have to take the day off of work.
6. After you've jumped through those hoops and paid 70 dollars to the town, then you get a temp. Town permit and your not done yet.
7. Now you have to go to the State and apply for a state permit. Pay that fee and wait longer.
Is this a joke or what. I'm all for proper screening but come on. I work as a hvac tech. When am I going to find the time in this heat to tell my boss.I have to come in late because I have to get fingerprinted Monday thru Friday 8 to 3:30 by appt only and get 3 letters of reccomendation. How stupid.

From what I remember when my dad did it in CT, he paid the fee to the town then just went to Middletown to get his picture taken but he did not have to pay again. What town in CT are you in that it is this bad? It almost sounds worse than some towns here in MA

| Sadly, it's no joke. Your constitutional rights have been nullified by your state & local governments. My advice...move to a free state.

Just to rub salt in the wounds. Where I live, to buy and own a handgun, you just walk into a gun store, plunk down your money. You also have to fill out the paperwork (takes a couple minutes), and they do a quick online/phone check to make sure you aren't a felon, or terrorist. They then ring up your purchase and you go home with your new handgun.
It's even easier for me. I just give them my CWP card and don't have to fill out the form.

Like anything, if it's important enough, you find the means. "Not worth it" means just that.

Sounds just like Long Island , New York. First page of the app says 6 months min don't call us we'll call you. Then this allows to to buy a pistol to keep at home and take back and fourth to the range. Carry permit forget about it. I got my ccw with less trouble here in Las Vegas. 3 day wait for first gun none after that and no back round check with ccw.

Don't let them win, clearly they have set things up like this to discourge people like you from getting a permit and so far it's working, do what ever you have to do to get the permit, them incourage others to vote these people out of office that set this senceless system up.

I was in a class with a young lady from Harlem. She was showing me her NYC pistol permit, I asked her how a Vet Rep from Harlem rated a pistol permit, she told me her daddy was friends with Charlie Rangel. Figures don't it.

How stupid. | Hey .30 Cal, your town sounds just like my town! (lol) I'm also in the state of Ct. and that's just what we have to put up with for our 2nd ammendment rights. What they fail to tell you is that our "permit to carry pistols & revolvers" isn't a "CCW", in other words, open carry is not against Ct law. Once you have your permit you can carry either way, concealed or open but be warned, if you do carry opened, any citizen can claim that your "exposed gun" freaked them or their kid out and you could be arrested for breach of pease. I too am an HVAC tech and I did have to take unpaid time off way back when I got my permit! Someone else asked, what town you in? I'm in Meriden now but originally from Derby.

The problem is that the dirt-balls just buy a gun out of one of their homies trunks.
No letters of reccomendation needed, just cash or dope.

At least you can get one. It's next to impossible here in SoCal.

The town permit fee is one time only and some towns police dept's even charge seperately for fingerprints but the actual state permit must be renewed every 6 years for a fee $75.00 and no one can answer where that money actually goes or who it benefits!

I went from california where you have to wait 10 freaking days just to purchase a gun to SC where as stated by clovishound i can throw down my cash and wait 5 minutes and walk out of the store a happy man. California is my home and it is beautiful but I don't think I could go back to stay.
