Yes, I know this is the CCW section, but seeing how there's no open carry forum here this seems as close as I could get.

Just curious.

KJS ... You might want to check out the discussion/poll that we had on this subject a while back at the following link: Open Carry Vs. Concealed .

My thoughts are the same now as they were at that time as listed in the quote below:

Accordingly, since I understand in advance that many people (who do not automatically know my intentions) will be uncomfortable if I walk up to (or past) them displaying a firearm at the local mall, Walmart, kiddie park, etc., It simply makes more sense (from my viewpoint) for me to carry concealed when I'm not on my property or at the range, given the fact that the entire reason that I carry is to protect myself and my family and reduce my risk of being a victim of a violent crime.

The bottom line for me .... While I am a firm believer in the 2nd Amendment as well as all of the Freedoms and Protections enumerated in our Constitution, I choose to exercise my right to bear arms in a quiet and responsible way and as a private matter.

Thanks for the link. Seeing how I don't carry (at least not yet, despite having a permit), I don't normally read the CCW section & had missed that thread.

Can't OC here in my state, other than on private property with permission of owner. CC is pretty easy to do.

Makes more sense to me in my locale anyway.

Don't do it. It causes problems for everyone involved.
I 100% agree with what BuckJM53 said.

I most always CC but when i go on a walk out in the country i like to open carry because it is a really comfortable way to carry on a hot day.

i agree with this--i don't, and i believe it's a provocative act that frankly brings unwanted attention, does NOTHING but upset people, and tips your hand as being armed. To me there is no upside but plenty of downsides

Here in Florida I have no choice. It's concealed or nothing, unless you're hunting. At least we do have a law that prevents you from being charged with brandishing if you're firearm is accidentally shown. The Government schools have done their job too well. Most young people are taught that all guns are evil, along with internal combustion, corporations and God. The sad thing is that we're paying for this crap with our tax dollars. If open carry is ever adopted nationally It will be quite an uphill climb to educate the American people. When I was in sixth grade in 1960 we were studying the Civil War. Kids whose great, great grandfather's fought in that war brought in a heavy cavalry sabre, a Springfield rifled musket with minnie balls and an Army Colt. If Sixth graders brought these things to school today they'd be arrested right along with their parents and teachers. The sad thing is that I don't know if we've gone too far to reverse this lunacy. If we were allowed to open carry, I think we'd have to do it incrementally. Like starting with compacts in IWB rigs and work our way up to large frame revolvers and pistols.

I open carry periodically. Never had any problems, the cops around here just look you over and move on. I've never even been stopped and asked for ID. Not that they can legally anyways. And the cops I've talked to seem to know what R.A.S. is/isn't. I right not exercised is a right lost.

I used to be of the belief that it was problematic and you are "making yourself a target". My thoughts on that have changed. Would I open carry walking through the roughest parts of Atlanta? No. But then again, I won't be walking through the roughest parts of Atlanta under any circumstances. It all comes down to 'situational awareness'.

kingpins9 ... With respect to your views, it only takes one idiot LEO that doesn't know the law to make your day go bad. The following incident that was just resolved after 18 months, depicts the nightmare for one Ohioan open carrying in a very small town Ohio Walmart Charged - Need some advice immediately!

In NH OC is legal and I do OC if I am hunting or woods walking. If I am headed out in public then I CC. A CCL up here is cheap for residents and easy to obtain so I choose to not bring attention to myself out in the public. I think most others feel the same way as you don't see a lot of OC.

In the 2010 election there was a rally for one of the incumbent House members that was a moonbat and there was a counter protest. A guy showed up OC'ing and the moonbats were whining and moaning. The police were cool they just said it's legal and he wasn't doing anything wrong and that was it. NH is a pro-gun state and the protestor did it for a reason. The more the moonbats (most were out of state, read Boston, SEIU supporters) whined the more regular NH people saw the real differences. The moonbat was not re-elected and now she is back sniffing around to get her old seat back.

Sadly, here in California (in most counties) it is impossible to get a concealed carry permit, and recently they outlawed open carry. All we can do legally is carry our guns inside our homes. And heaven help you if the police knock on your door for any reason and you open the door or step out on your front porch wearing a gun. You will find yourself kissing the pavement and wearing cuffs while they figure out what crime you may have committed.

It's legal here in VA. I haven't done it, and have seen very few in my area do it, despite it being a rather gun friendly area (atleast in my opinion).

I think in most scenarios, it is unnecessary as in VA it's darn simple to get a CCW. I feel the intent of OC is for outdoors type activities where the threat of an animal attack is higher. Just my opinion.

Since a lot of people don't know or understand gun laws, seeing an open gun on a civilian will only cause problems. Problems I don't need, despite it being legal.
