In Nj no open carry since 1966 except a long gun during hunting season. there is no handgun hunting in NJ so that is out. No ccw either as you have to get the local police chief to admit that there is a specific threat against you and he cannot protect you.

I carry here on the home spread all the time. The first two rounds in my GP100 are shot rounds for snakes. The last four are 158 grain jacketed hollow points for coyotes or other (two legged) varmints.
Since I'm out working almost every day, I carry almost every day and if I have to jump in the truck to go to the feed store or the hardware store, most of the time, I simply go, pistol and all. Open carry is legal here in Colorado and it would be a serious pain in the backside to have to drop everything to take my holster off every time I needed to run get more boards or something.
I carry everywhere I go, open or not. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Open carry is alive and well in communist Washington!!!!! It's no big deal and the cops, who are darn good people for the most part here, are aware of the law and don't hassle anyone about it. Although I generally OC most of the time nobody has ever commented on it other than to say they have never seen me carrying a gun. FRJ

I open carry here in AZ from time to time. It depends on what I'm doing. If I'm just running up to Wally world or its a really hot day. Otherwise I conceal 90% of the time. Its usually smarter in my opinion to CC whenever possible

We have a small sect here that are the flex your rights in your face types. They cause more trouble than good. There was an incident where a guy wore an ar15 on his back and went to one of the malls here. He ended up having around 30 cops their AR's pointed at him and got charged with disorderly conduct. Though he was in his legal rights his act caused a public panic.

I do when I'm hiking and walking through the woods and hunting. It's legal to carry here when archery hunting also if you have a permit.

Open carry alone does not give cops the right to even stop someone and ask them for ID. Would I open carry in a state that is reciprocal with GA? No. But in my own home state, I do it periodically, and some cops have even winked and nodded. Some people carry looking for a confrontation with police, I carry purely to exercise the right.
Being from Ohio, I know that the police up there are much less tolerant.

That is until I saw how some police are not fond of it. Then it is the duty of citizens to 'make' them fond of it, based on the laws of course. Once police are conditioned/trained to seeing lawful citizens armed, it becomes no issue to them just as it is with concealed carry.

As long as you do it within the law I respect and support your decision 100%. However, since this is still a free country, I will also choose (under the law) how to best exercise my firearms freedoms in a fashion that is appropriate for myself and family.

It is not up to the public to "force feed" officers into accepting what some individuals do.
From what I have seen in my almost seventy years is that the majority of people that choose to OC do so to "prove" something. I'm not sure if it is because they are slow learners, or if it is because their sense of personal worth is so low, or if they simply want their "fifteen minutes of fame" to be about some cause they have problems fully understanding. Belligerence directed at law enforcement WILL have negative consequences, legal, but none the less negative. If you make the choice to have any given day turn into a twenty minute (up to multiple day) argument with law enforcement, happen to you simply because you decided to OC, then please, DO NOT whine about the results, especially in a CONCEALED CARRY forum.
Gee, you think that might be why so few people OC? |
