| Bass Pro has a bad attitude towards CWP holders
I got to say I used to love going to Bass Pro for accesories and other stuff but today was my last day I will ever go to them. I decided to get a holster for my S&W Shield. I unloaded my gun and put it in my pistol bag. I go look for the holsters I like and bring everything to the gun counter. I tell the salesman I want to try these holsters for my gun and I will like for him to check and make sure is clear. He askes me how did i got thru the front door without getting a gun lock from the greeting person. I told him no one told me I need it a gun lock. He kinda got mad and told me there is a sign in the front that says so. I explained the person it wasn't my intent to do so but since he was so rude about that i actually have a conceal weapon permit and the gun was concealed when I came in. I'm not trying to make a big deal, I really had either miss the sign or it was small. He tells that it don't matter if I have a permit or not I need to have a lock on it. I told him he was incorrect, I can actually carry my firearm as long it is concealed by FL law. Now the store can have their own policy which is fine but you can't legally try to do anything about it unless I show the firearm in a rude or careless matter. They can only kick me out.
So I told him if he can help me out with the holster if not I will be more than happy to leave. So he reads the holsters package and he tells me that is not listed there is not going to work. I told to please try since I was almost positive it will fit. The gun actually fit the holster. I never put my hands on the holster or firearm. Next thing I was told that he was going to put a lock in my gun and the person by the front door can remove it. No problem with me. So he comes back with a big oversized lock and there was no way I can try the gun in the holster. I mention to him that he didn't gave a chance to check the tension of the holster or to at least try it. I was told I have to buy the holster and try it out outisde in the parking lot. If it doesn't fit I can return it and try again. Are serious? So if I want to try 4 holsters I have to buy them all and then go outside and return the ones I don't like? I mean he had check the gun and it was clear. I'm in front of him and I got the holsters I want to try. According to him that the way they do it. So I thank him and told him it will be last time they see me in a Bass Pro again. Same explanation in the front when they were removing the lock. I can't bring a firearm into the store regardless of premit or not.
It really surprise me that a store that sells firearms and hunting stuff will have this kinda of service towards gun owners. I could understand if i bring the firearm loaded and i reach to handle it to them then yes I can see that kinda of attitute. I went to Gander Mountain and some LGS and they have no issue as long as the gun is check by them and i'm in front of one of them trying the holsters out. No matter what it seems the responsible gun owners are the ones getting crap all the time...

I hate to say it but that sounds par for the course for a big box outlet. Sorry about your troubles though.

That is the policy in cabelas in pa. If you have a ccw weapon unloadit and ziptie thru the cykliner opening or teh magwell holding teh semi auto open. They have large signs by teh front door and there are several employees checking incoming packages and gun cases and looking at people to see if they are carrying. This is their policy and people abide by it. since I live in nj and cannot get a carry permit I observe and relate this for those of you in free america. I do not know about otehr cabelas but the gander mountain in pa I have visited has the same policy.

Is their crappy attitute when i'm doing the right thing to avoid scarying someone. The criminals come into the store with a gun and don't give a crap about their sign. Is always the good people that get slap...

I won't buy from Bass Pro Shops. The problems the OP had are bad enough. But all of their guns for sale have trigger locks on them. If I am not allowed to try the trigger and dry fire a modern pistol at a store, I'm not interested in buying from them. It's like buying shoes and not being able to really try them on.

This is a typical case of the good must suffer as a consequence of bad actions by a few.

Bass Pro has a bad attitude in general. I wanted to look at pistols and 3 of the employees were standing in front of the case talking about time travel and buying Colts from the 1800's another said no I would go back and buy stock from colt back then and it went on and on and they wouldn't move from IN FRONT of the counter so I could look at pistols. I was pretty pissed and ended up not even buying the powder I wanted to get.

I guess it depends who you are dealing with. A few years back I went to BP in Nashville TN. They weren't crowded .I was shooting the bull with the salesman in the gun dept. He said he carried such and such. He was an older feller not some young smart aleck trying to prove himself. As we talked about carry guns I said I have my little G27 on. All he told me was it's no problem in BP but don't go in the mall with it. I’ve always carried in BP. It's concealed and unless you say something they'll never know. I understand what the OP wanted to do and I personally see no problem with that.
I usually won't shop at Gander Mountain because of their outrageous prices. I do have to commend them for the sign at the entrance. They welcome legally carried concealed weapons in their stores. That’s the way it should be. I pretty much stick to “If my gun isn’t welcomed then I’m not welcomed” and take my business elsewhere. I have to laugh. I have bought a few guns from BP. I know it’s their policy. They walk you to the door with a Mickey Mouse lock on the gun meanwhile I’ve been carrying since I walked in the door. If I buy a handgun there they see my CCW permit, they have to know chances are I'm carryimg and they still walk you to to the front door.I’m surprised they don’t have metal detectors if they are that worried about guns in the store.

Almost every time I frequent the one "near" me, the employees have a holier than thou attitude.
do you think you're special cause you work in the gun department?

There have been several stories lately about Bass Pro being Elmer Fudd-ish on gun stuff. I get all of my stuff either from a LGS or from Gander. The gun counter guy and I talked for a bit when I was at Gander last weekend trying out a Beretta holster. They were quite helpful. |

I have never had a problem with the B P here in Clarksville Indiana. Even tried on a couple holsters at the gun counter. Different store, different people.

I buy ammo, targets, and cleaning supplies from the local Bass Pro Shop (Manteca, CA) but no firearms because their prices are higher than most of the local gun shops. They must sell a lot of firearms because the gun counter works like a bakery. Take a number, then stand around for an hour and wait for your number to be called. Sometimes there are 50 or more people waiting for a turn at the counter. I say I buy ammo, but like most places here, Bass Pro is out of most of the common ammo. Nothing but a wall of "out of stock" tags.

It must be location. I agree with Redjeep90. Since I have to travel to Clarksville,IN to get to BP around Louisville they have always been very nice and never a hassle. The same goes for the BP in South Miami near the Dolphin Mall.

Not to mention, their gun prices are OUTRAGEOUS here. Academy had the same model of pistol for $100 less than Bass Pro. They could close them all and I wouldn't miss them.
