If it ain't Loaded what's the point. You can't shoot a perp without one in the chute. Might as well be a paper weight.

If there isn't a round chambered then you are not fully ready to address any threat.... .5 to 1 second added to the time it takes to fire that first shot to stop the threat just isn't worth the extra time.

Get to know your gun & capabilities. Most guns can be carried safely with one in the chamber. There is a situation where I don't have a round in the chamber though. That is when I'm out in the woods with my 8 Y/O teaching gun handling as we stroll down a woods road. I let him carry on an empty chamber(10-22) & then I charge it when we are ready to shoot.

I do carry in condition 1. I couldn't see any sense in carrying an empty weapon. I was just wondering how everyone else felt about it. Thanks guys!

I only carry cocked & locked with one in the chamber and have been doing so for many years without issue.
While I don't want to appear overly dramatic here, if you're ever in the unfortunate position to have to draw on someone in self defense, the difference between simply drawing and disengaging the safety as you acquire the target versus having to take the additional time (under stress) to draw, rack the slide and then acquire the target could be your life.

I like to carry a gun, not a paper weight so it's always got one in the chamber and no safety.
If the LEOs do it,....

Comfort with your weapon helps how you carry.. But a perf from 20 feet will have your weapon before you are ready to shoot if you have to see threat, draw, lock and load under stress .. But is all about safety.. I carry ready with one in chamber safety on as that is second nature to release.. safety goes off as weapon is leaving holster..

+1 to condition 1. If I'm ever in a "situation" (and I pray I'm not!) I don't anticipate having time or the presence of mind to rack the slide to get one in the pipe - I'd as soon have a heavy rock in my pocket.

If you dont carry condition #1,Makes me think that you would be 1 apprehensive of pulling it in a life death scenario or 2 not confident that your gun will not go off all by it self,I recommend more shooting time practicing loading unloading and holstering.
