I always have one in the chamber. I make sure I have a good secure holster protecting the trigger. I've carried a G 27 for many year like that.

I bought an LCR as I wasn't comfortable carrying a pistol cocked and ready to roll. My LCR has +P ammo and its always at the ready. Maybe one day I will go with a Pistol but for now, I am a Revolver guy.

I have small kids in my life, so I go empty chamber. I do however train that way and can get a triple tap off in under 2.5 seconds. If you fight the way you train you will win.
When the kids are not around, I like to carry my 1911 condition one, cocked and locked.

Gun control is hitting your target, twice.

LC9 one in the pipe, 7 in the Magazine, safety engaged. I practice disengaging the safety when drawing.

Part of me thinks I can just use the thumb safety and the other part of me thinks I might forget to take off the safety or that I might accidentally bump something and switch off the safety and not know it. Interested in your answer.

While I don't want to appear overly dramatic here, if you're ever in the unfortunate position to have to draw on someone in self defense, the difference between simply drawing and disengaging the safety as you acquire the target versus having to take the additional time (under stress) to draw, rack the slide and then acquire the target could be your life.
Reply of the day! Nice, and well said, familiarize, practice, practice, practice, cocked and locked, down the chute, one in the pipe, condition 1, any way you say it, it may save you or a family members life!

I carry my p95 with one in the chamber, de-cocked, with the safety off. If you have to stop and rack the slide, you might as well just not carry one. If something goes down, you simply WILL NOT have enough time to get a shot off.

I carry my 1911 .45 with a round chambered, safety locked and hammer cocked. That is how you are supposed to carry.

Carrying a firearm for self defense without one in the chamber is a disaster waiting to happen.

The bottom line is if you don't feel comfortable carrying a firearm with a round in the chamber, you shouldn't be carrying a firearm at all.

I carry a glock 30 with a crimson trace lazer grip. I've been carrying with an empty chamber but it takes so much practice to rack it fast enough that I'm probably going to switch to one in the tube. For several years I equiped my glocks with NY triggers, but found they effect my shooting after a magazine or three so switched back to the factory trigger. As an added safety I've been using siderlocks on my carry glocks and find it very natural to flick off (like an 870 shotgun safety) while drawing. I carry one spare 13 round Mag with hydra shocks in my pcket as a reload.

For me it is loaded & unchambered - with good reason. Small grandchildren cannot possibly cycle the action, and I am old and could fall asleep. If taken from me the BG is thwarted. Reason for an auto. In addition the deadliest fighting force on earth carries unchambered - the Isralie Defense Force. They can chamber with one hand faster than you can release a safety. Gotta hardwire it in. My view is that if you cannot become very proficient with a loaded & unchambered auto then you are not ready to carry at all.
