I do not know if there is a perfect carry gun judging by the posts here. I think it depends on each persons physical height and size. I used to carry a Glock 26 until I got a LCP. I know it is a step down in caliber but I am a short fat guy.

My favorite CC pistol is the Kahr PM9 on the left hip or in a jacket or vest pocket.

Perfect carry size is what you find the most comfortable and concealable of the choices, that you are most proficient with.
I carry a Sig 239 Gen 2 SAS IWB. 3.6in barrel 1.2 in wide sharp points are dehorned so no snagging and siglite nite sights. Shoots straight as an arrow too.

I find it has to do with a couple of things. Weather and holster. Obviously cooler weather allows larger handguns. In the winter it is not unusual for me to carry the full sized 1911. Mid summer, 100 deg heat, I will probably have on my Kahr P9. But Holster quality and fit mean alot too. A well made Milt Sparks, for instance, is in my opinion tons more comfortable and easy to wear than is, for instance, a Crossbreed. The Sparks is like I'm wearing nothing but the Crossbreed curls and digs. I have a Comp-Tac also, and it is also very comfortable even though it is a Kydex/leather holster like the Crossbreed.

Grip length plays a big role for me. I carry either a G23, G36, LCP, or KT PF9 depending on clothing and threat. However, I shoot best with a full-sized gun with full-sized grip...but can't carry comfortably on my frame and in the summer.

Does anyone like to carry in a traditional muzzle down shoulder holster. I hunt with a Bianchi x-15 and it makes heavy guns more comfortable than years ago.

Ditto on the Seecamp. If you own a Seecamp it's hard to walk out the door with another gun. I have put on other guns and before I leave for the day I usually change my mind and go back to the Seecamp. Don't buy a Seecamp or you may never carry a bigger gun, even my J frame feels big compared to the Seecamp.
Same deal with a lcp. Since I have a Seecamp I did not buy the lcp, but I would have if I did not have the Seecamp

For me, CCW weapons are most likely to succeed if they have a short overall height.
My SP101 has Badger boot grips, and is DAO, so it carries like a dream, albeit a slightly heavy one.
The subcompact Glocks carry like a dream for me, as well.
The short grip length is really the ticket, for us slim-framed dudes.
I could get away with a Sig p239, but just barely (5.1" overall height)
Thickness is irrelevant for me, but that grip "printing" when I move around...is a deal-breaker.
Having said all that..I live in an area where I am not too keen on people knowing I carry concealed...due to my profession (teacher)
If I lived in a different region of the country...(more gun-friendly), I might consider carrying more of a "full-size" weapon. Most people will never notice a slight printing of a firearm, but I am super-secret about my carry.

Size isn't really the deciding factor for me although it's obviously an integral aspect. Look more at:
• Reliability - if it doesn't work, it's useless.
• concealability - it's a key element in CCW
• effectiveness - anything is better than nothing but there is such a thing as too much. I prefer a happy medium.
The above applies to both the firearm and the carry system. Far too often people want this great super duper gun and skimp on the holster and belt. Makes me wonder if they'd buy a Ferarri and put cheap tires on it. It's a complete package so why skimp on one aspect and go to the top on another? It's also not a "this is what I want = this is best" the first time around. Goes back to people settling on one aspect (price reasons)*roll eyes* Try different set-ups as one doesn't make it best in all situations. Then there's the training... How many are supposedly oh so serious about personal protection, CCW, etc yet never bother with any courses above and beyond the very basic small town, bare minimum course? Yeah, they're serious. *roll eyes*
Digressing...
So yeah, reliability, concealability, effectiveness...
SP101 in .357 or a P7M8 depending on situation. Leather is Mitch Rosen or Safariland.

Really don't believe there is a perfect carry size pistol or caliber that fits everyones needs but the Kahr PM9 works for me. |

The Kahr CW9 has been the most comfortable for me. I am good with 9mm for protection, it has never failed to function, I like the double action trigger pull, light and thin gun, and big enough to feel good in my hands.

I have found that it's thickness and overall height (grip) that has been the ultimate deciding factors for me. I used to think barrel length, but at least with my frame, it's the two former rather than the latter. Best of luck as you find your "best fit."
