A "few" things. As I get older, I find my knees won't allow me to run anymore. Then, "Ferguson" happened....both the wife and I are from/raised in Ferguson...really, a gorgeous town, you only saw that "bad" part. Her brother still lives in Ferguson, and we have to go over there more often that I would like. The final straw was the sheriff's deputy in our small Illinois unicorporated area showing up at the door one night saying "the Farm Fresh dairy just got robbed, we chased the robber down your street and he ran into the woods behind your house". Didn't take long after that. (I will say we live in a very safe area, all my neighbors are good people (and armed) ...just this one dirt bag from another town who robbed a dairy...with a BUTCHER KNIFE!

Moving back to Washington from California and the election a few years later of Scumbama! I could not get a CCL in California. The county that I live in in Washington is pretty simple, if you are a veteran? Plus, right after I got the permit, two Ganger scum tried to mug me in broad daylight in front of the local Rite Aid Drug Store.

Too ornery to let myself be a victim without putting up a fight and too old to put up much of a fight, so I evened out the playing field!

MartyMM is an unknown quantity at this point
I was 6" 1", 230lbs, aware and could run to escape danger. Now shrinking as get older, up to 240, one hip replaced, one knee iffy. Can not run or stand toe to toe with an aggressor. Before retired a co worker, who I wouldn't let have a snow ball in he__, went bragging about his weapon's and what he would do etc. All legal but hey, how many more are out there. That along with terrorists, domestic and foreign, how to protect myself and my others. I now carry everywhere legal, go to range once a week at least.

One day riding on my motorcycle about 30 miles from nowhere a carload of young bucks passed me and then slowed down to about 10 miles below the speed limit. I tried to pass them but they sped up and then slowed down again. They finally went on their way. The thought occurred to me had they been looking for a victim I could have been it. That was 7 years ago. I decided right then I should be able to at least make a bad encounter newsworthy.

I drive roughly 90 miles round trip daily for work...seems to be an increasing amount of road rage out there these days. I carry for protection if needed, and if I do need to protect myself, I do not want to let the perpetrator know I carry, everybody loves surprises. Add to the fact that open carry seems to make people twitchy these days. I also considered the issue of having an exposed firearm may incite someone to make a false claim of menacing if they see it fully exposed. They probably wouldn't win in court, but the expense of proving your innocence and the hassle of getting your firearm returned isn't worth the battle that concealed carry will theoretically reduce.

I concur with alot reasons already posted: advancing age, summation of physical limits, and the general condition of the world. Carrying a concealed firearm, might give you a slight, or better-chance at surviving an altercation. If you have, some time to react to it. I would hate to have to barricade in a room, unarmed; with a homicidal nutcase coming down the hallway. Finally, I believe in the right of self-defense. A properly stoked, Glock 26 can give you that, slight-edge; you might just need to survive.

Wanting to protect myself, my family, my home because I've learned many things having experienced the items below:

1. Family member that got involved with illegal drugs while living in my house.
2. Understanding my rights better than before and knowing what to reasonably expect from law enforcement situations better.
3. Having lost a senior family member to juvenile's who robbed and killed him in his own home because he was not prepared to protect himself.
