Repeated run in with the same pit bull. The owner has no voice control, and refuses to leash the dog. For whatever reason, the pit bull goes after my dog every time he (she?) see him. The pit bull hasn't drawn blood from my dog (yet) and I can bluff the dog down by yelling at it, and standing my ground, but I finally decided to carry some insurance.

Due to retirements at my FD, I found myself as lead Arson Investigator last October. My part time job (also investigating fires, insurance fraud, staged accidents) found me in some very dicey neighborhoods.
I am head-over-heels in love with my wife of 23 years. My daughter found her independence starting college this year. My son is in high school.
My job dictates that I'm away from home for 24 hours every third day.
I've found myself in such a position, that my SR40C is never far from my side, and EVERYONE in my home knows what to do "in case" when I'm at the fire station.
I've worked way to hard to let some random drug addict/arsonist take me away from my family!

I live outside Of Atlanta, these days the since most al of the housing projects have been shut down, the crime has followed to most of the suburbs. Around where I live the gang bangers are alive and well. With the price of homes dropping, we have know choice but to stay where we live., can't afford to move. And just to be truthful, I am to old to take a butt whipping! So with one of my handguns, it levels the playing field..Ray

I started to carry because of the way this country is headed, even the local police do not follow simple traffic laws anymore so what is next, if we do not protect ourselves how are we to count on? Certainly not the police that can not even be bothered to enforce traffic laws (or follow them).

The Aurora Colorado shooting was the last straw. I have always thought I should get my ccw but never did and there are just too many nutballs out there that look at gun free zones as a shooting gallery. Afterall you don't see these losers shooting up a police station, do ya?
Plus I'm in the backcountry a lot and I was starting to hear banjo music....

It was one of those "I'm gonna do it one of these days" things for several years. Then one day my daughter-in-law, the mother of my grandchildren, stepped out of her car in a mall parking lot and found herself looking down the barrel of a gun. Fortunately, they only took her purse but my son and I both signed up for a CHL class the next day. Been carrying ever since.

Thanks for taking a moment to remind all of us how quickly a great day can turn into a nightmare.

In Massachusetts a Class A concealed carry license also allows you to own pre-ban (yes, we still have the "assault weapon" ban here) high capacity firearms. The license costs the same and is valid for the same length of time as a regular F.I.D. So if you qualify..... I carry concealed mostly as a case of "It's one thing you hope to never need to use, but be able to have it if it is needed."

It's a great responsibility and a wonderful thing to possess and excercise the right as a citizen of this great nation to carry a firearm on your person to protect and defend yourself, loved one's, friends, innocent strangers, etc., against life threatening attacks from other citizens of this same great nation.
Hence my reason for carry is due to the irony...
