I would really like to carry with an OWB but, have problem understanding how others do it. I have CrossBreed IWB but to me they are not as comfortable as OWB. I live in Florida so it might not be able to do it. I have been to a class recently that all the students used OWB. The instructor seemed to feel that it is really the only way to carry. I just didn't see anyone using a cover garment and would like to know some recommendations. Pictures would be helpfull. I know that everyone asks for pictures of IWB carry. I would like just get help with this.
I am not leo and no badge to wear. So really do need straight answers.

Thanks.

Were they using those holsters just for the class?
You know that we can't carry open at this time, but they are working on it. When it rains or is a bit cool I usually use a Forbus under a shirt of jacket. Sometimes I use a simple two piece holster that seperates and can fit almost any size weapon. Are you living in the Orlando area? There's a gun show at the fairgrounds this weekend and you should be able to find , or at least get a good idea of what you want. It looks like I won't be able to get there until Sunday.

I am a LEO but I also carry OWB with out a badge on my belt or any other ID(that is openly visible). I carry my G19 or my SP101/Taurus 85ul in an OWB.

G19 - Gould and Goodrich 0800 I believe it is. Basically a 2 slot pancake with no thumb strap.

Wheelies - Blackhawk! speec classic. Same idea just an open top holster/beltslide. I will get a combat master for my revolvers one day.

My suggestion for hot climate would be a very well made high riding close to the body pancake with a light cover shirt. Also consider your weapon and reloads and body type. Sorry I don't have any pics resized to put on here. Hope this helps.

Had a Blackhawk Speed Classic for a snub .38 but found the butt of the gun would stick out a little. Changed to an El Paso Saddlery Street Combat and problem fixed--gun rides at the 4 o'clock position. I wear a tucked in tshirt as I don't like bare metal touching my skin and then a button up shirt over it-you can leave it unbuttoned if there isn't much wind. I also use shirts from eotac that are from their Tropical line Men's 4-Pocket Tropical Short-Sleeve Shirt | EOTAC and they make some really nice stuff that is tactical without looking tactical.

Ti,I carry my P90 OWB in a Safariland 568 with either a loose T-shirt or a Hawaiian or the like shirt not tucked in.It gets plenty hot here in Texas so sometimes in the summer I'll carry my High-Standard officers model for a smaller piece.also in a 568...Good Luck...

I carry my SR9c OWB in a Fobus Evolution paddle holster. It does project just a little bit, but I always wear beltless cargo shorts (24/7), holster under an untucked T-shirt, and an open overshirt. As far as I can tell, nobody has ever spotted my pistol. If you need to wear a suit or business casual clothing, OWB may not work so well for you.

I know some people don't care for Fobus, but it seems to work really well for me. The factory setting for retention has been perfect and I've never had my weapon fall out, nor had any difficulty in drawing it. Retention is adjustable anyway.

Oregon is pretty good for CCW holders. If you are licensed here, you can carry OWB in plain sight legally. (You'll still get hassled about it though). Cargo shorts are also pretty good for that lunker 17 round spare mag that comes with the SR9c.

Depends on what your are carrying tiburns.

In hot weather I can easily cover an LCR or SR9c in a paddle holster or a yaqui style belt slide (which I like a lot if I'm not going to be doing something with a lot of physical activity).

A dark colored T shirt or polo type shirt tail out conceals fine. Dark colors tend to show any printing less.

It doesn't work as well for a full size Sig 220 very well, however OWB works for that under a jacket when it's cool enough.

I don't have any pics of me wearing it, but here's what I carry my LCR in. Hides easily behing a loose button up shirt....a big +1 to the earlier mention of the EOTAC tropical shirt, or, there are also similiar offerings from 5.11 and Woolrich. I personally prefer the 5.11 brand but they are all nice.

The holster is from Ray at lobogunleather.com it is his #14 Enhanced Pancake Style and a value at less than $70 for a hand crafted holster.

Notice in the 2nd pic that the loops are on the back of the holster, that's the "enhanced" part of the classic pancake design. Cleans up the looks a bit.

Pic #4 is a closeup to show the quality of the stitching where a loop normally would be. Almost a shame there isn't open carry in Arkansas and I've got to keep this pretty piece of leather hidden.

tiburns, I have discovered a long time ago that the key to owb is having a quality gunbelt. You will not believe the difference it will make. No sagging holster, great support for your back(believe it or not), and will hold your weapon close to your side. Just my 2 cents.

Tim,

I use the holster shown at this link. Model 76 Ambidextrous Multi Gun Belt Slide Holster . The top picture shows the belt running over the holster as I use it.. It's inexpensive and very durable.. I've worn it for 2 yrs.. I carry a P95 Ruger similiar to the top picture.. It keeps the firearm close and snug.. A good sturdy belt is needed for any OWB holster.. Hope this helps..

My SR9C rides in a Crossbreed Snapslide OWB. Design of holster pulls it tight against the body, canted forward and high up. Usually wear about the 4:00 or wherever I can effect a fast presentation (draw). Shirt or coat wore outside and over the holster.
Comfortable and I'm real impressed with how fast the gun can get into the fray if needed.

I carry a full size Glock 31, XDM-9, P97, and a Glock 33 all in a Don Hume JIT Slide. I'm 6 ft tall and weigh 155 lbs. I don't have any problem concealing with khakis and a polo. The XDM prints a little but the key is in the belt I believe. I use a Galco instructors belt. I wish I could've found one with the insert, but for what it is it does a good job.

I also wear a Galco instructors belt. I carry either my G23 or my G27 most of the time but carry my LCR occasionally. LCR usually goes on my ankle. My Glocks stay on my hip in a G-Code paddle holster.

As far as dress goes I can relate to the FL heat, I used to live there but now reside in N. Alabama where its still hot in the summer. I prefer cargo pant shorts, tank top t-shirt and then a light weight button up cover shirt like a fishing shirt with a ventilated back. Its worked for me for many years. Good luck to you.
If I knew how to post pics I'd show you.
