Arkansas House passes bill allowing guns in cars at work

LITTLE ROCK, AR (AP) - The House has passed a bill that would allow holders of concealed weapons permits to keep their weapon out of sight in their parked car while at work.

The bill by Rep. John Catlett of Rover passed Wednesday on a 69-16 vote.

Rep. Keith Ingram of West Memphis argued against the bill and cited an incident at his Cabot business in which an armed employee kept law officers at bay during a 10-hour standoff.

Catlett said the purpose of a concealed weapons permit is to allow citizens to protect themselves. He said if they have to leave their guns at home, they can't do that.

Catlett said the bill would help factory workers on the night shift who want their guns while they travel to and from work.

Good for you guys. Florida passed that a few years back. To be honest I don't know if it pertains to CCW holder or anybody since I'm no longer down there. Either way it's definately a step in the right direction. Congrats.

I think that it is a good law, however I work for a company that does not allow firearms on it's property even if it is in your car and is grounds for termination.

If I'm right anyone can carry a weapon in their vehicle as long as it's in a glove box, console, ect, and in a holster with a strap snapped shut. Concealed carry people can wear their weapons at all times.

There's also a push to allow open carry and another one starting to allow permitted people to carry theirs on school and college grounds.

Let's see, if they allowed open carry, why not carry a carbine style weapon like a cut down AR-15, Beretta Storm carbine, and so on? It would be a bit more awarkard and bulky, and would deffinately draw attention at first....for a some time.

I maybe wrong but if it passes the law overides the company policy. I worked for a place like that. I was there for over 17 years and there was only a few days that my gun wasn't in my truck.

What they don't know won't hurt them.
