Whatever I'm carrying there's one in the chamber. The most important thing is training. If you don't feel comfortable enough to carry a chambered weapon then you are not ready to carry and need more training until you are comfortable. Someone mentioned revolvers for those who are not comfortable with a cocked and locked pistol. What do you think the cylinder is? It's a revolving chamber. The only safety is your finger. The only safe way to carry any firearm is to train until everything is second nature.

wow that video was disturbing.
i carry condition 3. but will now be carrying condition 2 or 1.
i generally leave my gun in condition 3, while i'm at the house, or in my car, just because JUST IN CASE i was irresponsible enough to forget it, and my 4yr old got it, i know there is no way he could rack the slide. thus, no way he could shoot it (and he LOVES LOVES LOVES guns/hunting/fishing)
but when i finally get a dang holster for this thing, i'll carry condition 2 or 1.
i wanted to get an lc9, but heard some bad things about them on here. any advice for an alternative 9mm or .380 in a very concealable pistol?
edit: doesn't have to be as small as the LC9, but should be smaller and lighter (considerably) than my 1911, because i kinda wanna get it for my wife, who travels a lot with work...and works in some areas in downtown Madison, WI, which is filled with drunks and some areas, thugs.

Check out the Sig P238 for an awesome 380. For 9mm I'd probably go with the S&W Shield or for a prettier gun, the Kimber Solo. SA will be coming out soon with 9mm and 40 cal versions of the XDs. Any of these would be fine options. And if you like ugly guns, the Glock 26 is a good option. If you don't mind something bigger, the SR9c is hard to beat.

If I didn't live in the only state without any form of concealed carry, i would carry it with one in the chamber, safety on ....
The manual safety is one of the two reasons I bought the SR9c over the other striker fired guns I tried such as the XDm9/G19/PPQ (the other reason was I loved the way it felt & shot); if I hadn't intended to use it, I would have purchased one of the others (probably the PPQ)

One in chamber, safety on, in a Desantis holster ordered from ruger, covered by an untucked shirt. In Indiana I don't have to worry if I print. And depending on the lenght of the shirt, SR40 or SR40C. The thumb pops the safety as I draw.

I carry with one in the chamber and the safety on. When carrying my 1911, it's cocked and locked. I purchased an SR9C because it has an ambidextrous safety..same as my 1911s. Not using the safety won't put you on target faster; training will
