Thats just not true. For example, the Speer Gold Dot 135 Grain +P in .38 Special will be lucky to hit 930 to 950 fps in the LCR .38. However, the 125 Grain .357 Magnum will chronograph out to about 1275 in the LCR .357. That is a HUGE difference.

I own both .357s but mostly I carry the SP101. I may be old school but I was trained on revolvers and prefer having a hammer that I can cock back when I want to and overall I like the heavier feel. When I carry the LCR it's usually when I'm not wearing a outer open shirt.

I had a 2.25" Ruger SP101 in .357mag when I purchased my Ruger LCR in .38+P! I liked the LCR for pocket carry, but tended to go back to the SP101 for belt carry. I finally sold the LCR and purchased a 3" SP101 in .357mag...which is now my daily carry piece...and I couldn't be happier!

Remember, a comfortable carry gun is not necessarily a comfortable range gun and a comfortable range gun is not necessarily a comfortable carry piece...however, I believe the Ruger SP101 splits the difference between those to extremes quite nicely.

Lastly, BOTH of my SP101's sport Meprolight Tritium Front Night Sights...which definitely helps in low light / night situations!

I had the opportunity to handle both side by side. As far as I could see and feel the LCR had a lighter trigger pull and was of course lighter in weight. The SP101 has about twice as much steel between each charge hole, all steel, and to my way of thinking just felt better in the hand. I just fell more confidence with the SP101. I wasn't able to test fire them side by side and unfortunately I don't have any holster suggestions for you. I did pickup the 101 in 2.4" with the bobbed hammer just this afternoon to go along with the 3" I already had. The SP just feels like a firearm should not like a cap pistol as the LCR feels like to me. If you could lay them side by side you could than pick the one that best fit your needs. I went with the SP and know I made the right choice.

I have handled a few SP101's and just didnt like the long stacking trigger pull. I would have to have the trigger worked on of I were to buy one.

I have no clue about the LCR, never shot one. However, my hand can testify to the fact that shooting "certain" .357 loads out of the SP101 can be a painful experience. I would hate like hell to see what those loads would feel like in the LCR.

You might be better off with the SP. Just my opinion though.

better off wit the lcr for pocket carry...IMHO

true, but +p .38's in the .357 LCR aren't quite so rough on the hands as +p's in my lightwight .38 Charter.

It's a good compromise, and I still have the option of .357 if I wish.

The only thing that I still prefer in the LCR over the SP is the trigger. I wanted the .357 LCR bad when I first saw it but the desire faded fast. But I still love its trigger.

I carry the LCR on a daily basis. It is very comfortable to carry. I also practice with it on a weekly basis. IMHO, the SP101 feels too heavy to carry and be comfortable with. I really like the LCR loaded with .38 SPC +P.

If you are actually going to load with .357, I'd recommend the SP. But as some have said above, many people buy a .357 then find that the recoil is not something they want to deal with and load with .38. So, if you're going to end up using .38s then its up to your personal preference as to which revolver.

I like the SP101 and I like the LCR. I ended up with both. The LCR's trigger is
great ie. extremely smooth. I had to double check and make sure it wasn't a Smith and Wesson. The LCR beats a J-Frame<imho>for concealability, has the best trigger, and is DOA. I bouught the .357 model because it was a little heavier, and I intend to mostly shoot .38's/.38+P and still have the option of\ .357.

I have a SP101 in .327mag and it's my outdoors ccw. I love the .327mag and the variety of ammo choices. I ordered ammo in bulk. I would like to see the .327mag. become more popular; it's a fun gun to plink... I'm used to shooting J-Frames. For whatever reason, I'm not really recoil sensative inasmuch I feel that the .38 is just very comfortable to shoot, and that in 'combat' the snubbie is made for point shooting at relatively short ranges that ought to be sufficient. The.327 is<imho>is just about perfect.

I'd like to see some more .327's

I carry A SP101 DAO AIWB and a LCR357 in my off hand pocket every day. I like shooting both guns and practice with 357 125G. JHP Ammo. I think the LCR is my favorite because it is so easy to carry. I have no problem shooting it. It's painless to shoot you just have to hang on. When I shoot it at the Range I shoot it for an hour. That's around 200 or more rounds of 357 at a time. I shoot the LCR 357 more than any of the other 357s I have these days.
