My stepping out (dressed up) CC gun is a small Colt .380 which has proven deadly accurate and reliable. My other CC guns are 2-3 inch, S&W J-frames, I own (5), of these (2) are magnums. My outdoor carry (fishing and hiking) CC is a Bisley Colt SAA, 4-3/4 inch, .45 Colt in a cross draw holster. My hunting backup is a Super Redhawk Alaskan .44 Mag.

I carry a pair of .38 LCRs in winter. Jacket pockets. Slightly prefer shooting left handed. I used to think of 2" snubbies as "spray & pray" guns but with that nice trigger & 3 finger grips I use I shoot as well at 7 yards as with small 9mm pistols. Summer, I carry one in front jeans pocket but my wallet, phone & keys go in the other, so I ordered a pair of Kydex IWB holsters for appendix carry. Will carry both LCRs after jacker weather is over & get my front jeans pockets back. I think a 5 shot snubby is enough for most situations but I've seen Youtube surveillance videos of carjackings & ambushes with 4 or more attackers. Mostly in other countries or high crime areas of large cities but if it gets that way where I live I'll start carrying a 15+1 9mm.

My EDC for the winter at least is an LCR 38 special and the LCPII for a backup. Having a coat on makes it manageable

About a year ago I asked the owner of a local gun store in Charlotte,NC what his top selling semi-auto's for conceal carry were and he said the S&W Shield and Ruger LCP. These carry 6-7 rounds. My point is that people often think every semi-auto has 15-17 rounds. 1911's carry 8. There are revolvers today that can carry 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 rounds. I currently carry a 7 round 686 and have never felt under prepared.

At work I have to carry a semi auto. So I carry a 1911.

But I also have my j frame as my BUG.

Off duty, 99.67% of the time I'm carrying my SW 640 and a speed strip. If I need to reload, it will be behind cover. If I'm facing 2-3 guys, don't know I'll risk pulling my gun anyways. If they're armed, they have the jump and I'm only going to be able to defend against one at a time. Chances too high I'll come out with extra holes. I'll let them take my crappy car and empty wallet.

Days I have to dress nice I usually throw my Colt Mustang in the pocket

I carry my SP-101 4 inch, 32 H&R Magnum with 100 Gr JHP +P's in a cross draw holster, with a speed loader.

A Taurus 856 38 special most of the time, however I just got some genuine stag grips for the 1911 so it demands an outing real soon. A birdshead Vaquero in 45 Colt dose duty for barbeques :-)

That's a good point, however when it comes to semi-autos if I was going to carry one I would carry one with a hi-cap mag as there would be no other reason to do so for me other then for the capacity advantage. Some compact 9mm's like the Taurus PT 111 G2 Millennium are almost the same size as the M&P Shield yet can hold 13 rounds. The double-stack handles are not that much harder to carry then the single stacks and I don't know why anyone would bother with a single stack in a full or compact pistol size today unless they really liked the .45acp.

I carry an 8 +1 1911 at work over a 17 round Glock simply because I shoot it much, much better. Those extra 8 rounds won't do me much good if they're misses.

So far, I haven't had to fire a single shot in self defense so 5 or 6 shots (plus one or two reloads) has been more then I ever needed. Another question that I ponder is how much is enough? What if you're in a situation were 8, 10, 12 or 16 shots isn't good enough either? Where does it all end?

I say just carry what you like and what you know works. I don't think I would be around very long in my current situation anyhow if the apocalypse comes no matter what I was carrying.

Flash Mobs? Riots? You need something that's belt fed in those situations. Not a pistol or revolver deal.

WTSANDSTORM will become famous soon enough
I pocket carry Bond Arms Snake Slayer, .410 - 000, about 60% of the time. If headed to the Mall, or other busy places, the LCRx .38 is just as comfortable, and is always happy to go along. Speed strips feed both guns. I think I'm going to like one of the new .44 Specials, before long. I DO love revolvers!

Practically speaking a subcompact semi auto has more capacity (10-15 rounds). In theory semi auto is the way to go unless your worried about jams. I just like revolvers, I love to shoot them and love to carry them.

I never claimed a hi-cap semi-auto pistol was an ideal choice in those situations, but it would be a better choice then a revolver for sure.

Regarding flash mobs, those are usually young punks who get together to cause mayhem at Malls and such. In that situation, I think a semi-auto would be fine as most would flee at the first sign of any serious opposition. Full blown riots on the other hand are a totally different story.

I have a few handguns, but I carry only my 3" SP101. It's my CCW, my backup hunting gun, my lightweight bear protection, my friendly competition gun, and my primary plinker. This is my way of ensuring I am as familiar with it as possible. I think the saying goes "Beware the man with one gun, he knows how to use it."
