Open carry in FL?

The people of the Sunshine State may actually see their lawmakers approve open carry in 2017.

Open-carry bill should have a friendlier path next year in Florida Senate | Tampa Bay Times

I generally support the idea of open carry but have some concerns. Specifically, I'm not thrilled with the idea of citizens carrying rifles in the open on city streets or into schools, airport terminals, etc. I know there's technically not much difference between the open carry of a rifle versus open carry of a pistol, but somehow to me it just doesn't seem appropriate.

I think the main reason I like the idea of open carry is that it'd be more comfortable and give me many more options for carry, and if I needed to reach for my firearm, it'd be easier and quicker to get to.

I would continue to carry concealed even if this passes. I wouldn't be uncomfortable open carrying, or even others open carrying for that matter, but I would prefer in most cases have my gun concealed.

Maybe, if I were out in the sticks fishing or hiking, that may be a different story, but that would be an exception.

great goo dluck in nj we have neither legal open or concealed carry. Open carry is illegaal but concealed is legal just impossible to get.

In these matters you take everything you can get, and hold it. Even if it doesn't personally suit you.

Open Carry everyday, it's not a big deal. However I will not bother to go to any state that doesn't believe in our Constitution. I pray Florida joins the free United States. Florida was very instrumental and bold with the Castle doctrine and concealed carry but fell short on open carry.

I hope it passes there. We are currently in a battle to get Constitution Carry this coming session. It's a difficult thing to get politicians to give your Rights back once they remove them from their citizens. Look at California, NY, and New Jersey who are just like Mexico.

We have had both open carry without a license and concealed carry with, in NH for decades and outside of the woods you rarely see anyone open carrying. The CCL in NH is $10 (all in) for 4 years and we like the element of surprise.

Doesn't the open carry statutes in NH require that the firearm be unloaded?

^^^ that!

Very little interest in open carry personally but feel it should be a right.

I to agree with open carry. However, I personally don't. I guess I don't have the "look what I can do because I can" attitude. To each his/her own.

Actually no man or woman should fear the use of their God given Rights or be shamed for doing so. It's kinda like being told you have the right to free speech...but you better shut the **** up or else.

No one should hold dominion over you. But there are still people who will try.

I don't fear it, and am not ashamed of doing so. I guess I don't feel the need to. I carry concealed, and that is just fine with me.

I prefer to conceal carry but if others want to open carry and its legal to do so, more power to them.

Open carry, conceal carry, no carry should be a personal decision. That said I open carry, and prefer OC. The only reason I can see for CC if I was to CC is the stigma society has placed on seeing firearms. I could not care less what other people think.

Open carry laws inherently make conceal carry laws less vague e.g., printing or accidentally exposing your weapon while reaching to the top shelf at the supermarket. When I began CC, I constantly checked my shirt or tugged at my sweater to ensure I wasn't going to set off someone yelling, he's got a gun! I'm much more relaxed now. I've never experienced anything remotely close to that. I did have one guy quietly ask me if I was carrying - thought it was odd and was a bit unsettled by it but he was carrying and apparently made a habit of picking out others carrying - strange but whatever.

IL law requires "mostly concealed" by statute whatever that means. That's why OC would be helpful to carriers - no chance of being harassed for brandishing which I believe can be a felony in IL. I've got nothing against OC and if it were the law, I'd probably OC to/from the range and around my own property but not out in crowds. Maybe it's just me, OC seems to make you the first target of BGs. You're the biggest threat to whatever crap they're up to or you have something they'd really like to get their hands on. Either way, I'd just as soon keep it to myself.
