Finally got my CCW

It took the Arizona Department of Public Safety forty-nine days to determine that I'm not a scallawag, and issue me a CCW Permit. I'm glad I finally got it, I was beginning to wonder.

Does it take this long in other states?

Pam

Congrats. And I am glad you are classified as a scallawag.

Congratulations. In New Jersey it takes never. We have 1200 non job related carry permits in a state of 9 million and that includes retired police.

In NH it's 2 weeks by law. We don't have all the fancy stuff like fingerprints, classes, just 3 references and a background check plus the outrageous fee of $10 for 4 years. In 2017 we will have constitutional carry as we have a Rep governor taking over and rep control in both houses of the state legislature. The new Gov. has said he will sign it.

Everytime I hear that, I cringe. Is there a movement in place to try to fix that problem?

When I got a CCP in New York 40+ years ago, it took 6 months and probably worse now.
Here in Montana it took 5 days a few years ago and being former military, no class reguired.
My wife got one at the same time, again only 5 days but of course she needed to take a safety course with range time.

Here in Arizona you have to take a class and be tested on the range. Because I'm a veteran, I didn't have to do the range time. After the class, fingerprints, $60.00, and sent off the application.

I have had mine for a long time, and can't remember, but my son-in-law and daughter just got theirs this year and it took about 35 days. They are really backed up in Indiana right now.

Indiana doesn't have a concealed weapon permit, the permit is only a permit to carry, you may carry concealed or open carry, and we are a "Shall Issue" state.

One really great thing, you can get a lifetime permit in Indiana, which is what most folks get now. (unless of course, you do something really bad :>)

In Virginia and in the right town it can be accomplished within hours/minutes. You need either DD214 or test results (can be done online), clean record, trip to courthouse pay your $15.00 with the form. If the Sheriff is available to approve you can walk out with a permit. The only reason I didn't was it was Thursday, the Sheriff was out of town and I was not in any rush. They called me Tue and said come pick it up. Took the oath and off I went with a laminated permit.

We may be a "blue state" (Nov 8) but we are still good...
